Quentin Delafon, Michael Szpiner and Dorian Dumont are eating frozen pizza and getting drunk on vodka. They decide to set up a MySpace page for an imaginary band. A random girl called Nicole sends them a comment\u2026 The Teenager\u2019s first song, &#8220;Fuck Nicole,&#8221; is born. Within eight months the French trio have amassed over 10,000 MySpace friends, bagged a record deal and decamped to London. Any worries that the jokers-turned-electro-popsters would play it safe for their debut single were soon dispelled with <em>Homecoming<\/em>, which features the catchy chorus \u201cI fucked my American cunt.\u201d The Teenagers \u2013 all in their mid-twenties \u2013 are here to prove that adolescence is only a state of mind.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>How would you describe your music?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Quentin Delafon:<\/strong> Sleazy French pop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you write for yourselves or your fans?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> We\u2019re pretty narcissistic so we write for ourselves. But it\u2019s cool that people enjoy it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Michael Szpiner:<\/strong> We share our selfishness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dorian Dumont:<\/strong> Share our selfishness\u2026 that sounds good.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> We\u2019ll have to use that again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Career highpoint so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>DD:<\/strong> The first time we played Reading festival. That was our first big show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> And the first time we played in America. Doing shows in places like Seattle, LA, San Francisco, New York, Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> Vancouver isn\u2019t in America.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have a pre-gig ritual?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> We gather round, I grab their arses and we say the name of the place we\u2019re about to play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> We sound like Madonna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> No. She does like a big Kabbalah group chant. It\u2019s different. In the beginning we used to hit ourselves because we were so nervous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DD:<\/strong> But it didn\u2019t help us to play our instruments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you could teach the world to sing, what would you teach them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> I don\u2019t think we\u2019re ones to teach anyone how to sing!<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> Maybe Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you listen to on the tour bus?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> Everyone listens to their own music. For me at the moment it would be Robyn, Yeasayer, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Castles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> Metallica.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DD:<\/strong> Kings of Leon, MGMT.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you argue about?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> The seats in the van.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DD:<\/strong> The seats on the plane. Window or aisle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> Or who wins at Mario Kart on the Nintendo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any scary fans yet?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MS:<\/strong> In America we saw the same girl at three of our shows. Then we saw her back here in Nottingham again. But she\u2019s not very dangerous or frightening. She just looks young and fragile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QD:<\/strong> Vampire Weekend are dangerous fans. They\u2019re like stalkers.   Every festival we play they are there, playing after us. It\u2019s like, \u2018What the fuck? Get a life!\u2019 Always hanging about backstage.
