Following a break with his original label, Universal, Bo Keeney is back with his ‘7 Eleven’ EP, a classic slice of his suave take on electro sounds

"Bo

Recorded in the Hackney basement he shared with longtime friends and collaborators Flyte and Bombs the record centres around his exploration of excessive consumption themed around his upbringing in San Francisco. With a trio of songs drenched in the easy, languorous vocals that are more suggestive of California sunshine than an East London flat Keeney is treading a fine line between Jason Mraz-esque soul crooner and a dance influenced bedroom producer.

It’s a combination that can confuse, and there are moments on the EP when Keeney seems momentarily unsure of what sound he’s going for. Thankfully they’re short-lived, each songs rapidly developing into an appealing melange of the industrial and melodic. The release coincides with his move to Berlin, where he’s taking a creative break for the season, to consolidate and assemble new and unreleased material for subsequent releases. If this is a taster of what we can expect, it seems there’s a lot to be excited about.
