With such nuggets of wisdom as \u201c<em>Don&#8217;t worry about the future, or know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind the kind that blindsides you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday<\/em>\u201d it\u2019s the perfect imaginary commencement speech.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sTJ7AzBIJoI\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>His fabulous taste in music<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Baz has consistently produced soundtracks for his films which sit in the happy place between eclectic and bizarre. He soundtracked his 2012 <em>Great Gatsby<\/em> with songs by Beyonce and Jay-Z, and is personally responsible for my first introduction to Prince, via his cover of \u201cWhen Doves Cry\u201d, sung by a choirboy in <em>Romeo + Juliet<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jxQWckbhVTU\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>His excessively decadent vision<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In <em>Moulin Rouge<\/em> Nicole Kidman lives in a giant elephant and swings through a bedazzled club in a bejewelled, feathered corset. It\u2019s hardly surprising, then, that Baz decided to adapt the finest ode to decadence in the literary canon, <em>The Great Gatsby<\/em>. It\u2019s a feast for the eyes unlike anything else in film.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Great-Gatsby-Party-gif.gif\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-37000\" alt=\"Great Gatsby Party gif\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Great-Gatsby-Party-gif.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>His imagination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He opened up Shakespeare to a whole generation with his astonishing re-imagining of the bard&#8217;s classic: <em>Romeo + Juliet<\/em> \u2013 still one of the best Shakespeare productions ever.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6S6IJWilpx4\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>His commitment to high fashion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s married to Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin and he got Miuccia Prada to design the costumes for <em>The Great Gatsby.<\/em> \u2018Nuff said really.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Great-Gatsby-clothes.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36999\" alt=\"Great Gatsby clothes\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Great-Gatsby-clothes.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>His truly spectacular casting choices<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think any of us will ever get over our teen crushes on Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/R+J-Gif.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-36998\" alt=\"R+J Gif\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2014\/09\/R+J-Gif.gif\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>His patriotism<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His mammoth three hour epic <em>Australia<\/em> acted as both an ode to his beautiful homeland, as well as a wonderfully entertaining piece of melodrama, spanning topics as vast as racism, cattle farming and the second world war.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mfI4hK9I2k0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"
