We haven’t heard all that much from Dublin producer Kormac since the release of his critically acclaimed first LP, but new release ‘White Noise’ suggests the raised expectations surrounding his sophomore effort are unlikely to be disappointed.

Featuring Speech Debelle on vocal duties the track itself is relatively simple: haunting synth melodies carry outbursts of brass, whilst handclaps and a driving beats carry the cut along, playing off Debelles’ threateningly rhythmic delivery.

From anyone else such a mishmash of sounds might have seemed incongruous, even confused, but with what we know of Kormac’s pedigree – he grew up rummaging through vinyl bargain bins, picking up everything from spoken-word pieces to jazz drum parts and vintage instrumentals – the various influences seem to fit perfectly together. Sitting neither in the realm of hiphop, jazz, nor electronic music, Kormac shapes his music to fit his vision of the world, and carries us lucky spectators along with him.
