Art teacher chic meets Santorini seduction, the SS15 CoTW girl is colorful and slightly off-kilter

So here’s a theory

Creatures of the Wind is ‘art teacher chic’ – for the art teacher in her twenties. Forget caftans and chunky jewellery; turn back the clock thirty years before the laughlines, grizzled grey hair and mismatched earrings, and there you have it – The CoTW girl is colorful and slightly off-kilter (she loves Cezanne, you know, and Matisse’s paper collages), yet presentable enough for parent-teacher meetings at The Brearley School.

This season, the twentysomething year old Ms. Holland goes on vacation: Santorini, maybe, or Côte d’Azur – somewhere refreshing, where she’ll ride a bicycle through cobblestone streets, and catch up on a light paperback.

The first look says it all

The china blue-and-white patterned top echoes a tiled wall mosaic, the kind you might find in the bathroom at a coastal French bed-and-breakfast (someplace old, with a leaky cast-iron spigot). The pants – well, they’re canonical CoTW – colorful, but not loud, chic but not stifling. This art teacher wears her heart on her patterned sleeve.

Guided tour

Designers Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters take us on a breezy seaside journey: dishcloth-y stripes on dresses/coats/bags evolve through the collection into sequins (bronze, like antiquated mermaid scales), and picnic fabrics turn up sporty racing details with a Prada FW14 feel.

Thanks for the memories

Those shoes. Platform moccasins. Braided patent leather – metallic.

We’ve see a lot of things on vacation, but these – let’s just say this these babies are the first thing we’re packing into our Santorini suitcases next season.
