Cecilia Bönström does military bohemia for Zadig & Voltaire AW14, read about it here.

For the latest collection for Zadig & Voltaire creative director Cecilia Bönström took her inspiration from protection and empowerment, military. “The collection has this tomboy attitude that gives the wearer a kind of confidence. When you wear these clothes you feel powerful,” she explains.

The collection perfectly fused masculine and feminine and strength and romance, dark oversized parkas with magenta linings and other frequent pops of pink and orange against the dark colour palette moreover dainty lace dresses and long skirts were paired with grungy knits and utilitarian jackets, nonchalantly thrown over models shoulders. Skinny fit overalls were worn with contrasting mesh tops and some were embellished with multi-coloured sequins giving them a luxe feel. Parka’s were given new proportions with oversized fur collars, military sweaters were reinterpreted as patchwork knits and army stripes were found on jackets. It was as collection that was as practical as it was chic, “The Zadig & Voltaire woman wants to look cool and feel comfortable this winter,” explains Bönström.

On top of practicality there was a care free rock chick vibe to the collection with skirts with perfecto detailing, leggings and biker jackets. Reaffirming the house’s reputation for innovative knitwear, breton striped merino knits are woven to include holes giving the feel they’ve been worn (and loved) for years. Tailoring came in to play in the form of outerwear, coats were in sharp silhouettes and hit below the knee, shoulders were angular and sleeves are flared. Oversized, masculine blazers take their cue from pieces in the men’s collection.
