Marques Toliver’s soulful, electro-jungle meets choir beats are back in his second mixtape, Study For My PHD, Volume II.

"Marques

When he’s not busking the sidewalks of Brick Lane with his violin, Marques Toliver is all about working the magic. Discovered first by TV on the Radio in New York, then by Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde in London, he has a CV that makes most musicians grumble with envy: a sometimes model, an Adele favourite, star of Bat For Lashes’ video, Laura, editor of Love is Law magazine, and now a world-renowned violinist and musician due in part to his first album, Land of CanAan.

But don’t think he’s just riding on the waves of success — Toliver is back only a few months after Land of CanAan‘s release with an entirely new mixtape, Study For My PHD, Volume II. The sound is vibrant, steeped in classic soul — and Beyonce. Hints of Queen B run throughout the tape, from clips of her Love on Top track to her classic snippets of wisdom. We’re feeling smarter by the minute.

Toliver is keen to let his audience sink their teeth into the new tracks — but not for long: “We can’t rest too long though so next up, the band and I are back at the Latitude Festival…then in September and October we’ll be back on the road taking the ‘Marques Toliver & The Sometimes – Land of CanAan Tour’ all around Europe.” While we wait for the multiple chances to drool over Toliver’s impressive abilities, we’ll be jiving along to his eclectic beats.
