{"id":18567,"date":"2013-05-08T08:50:06","date_gmt":"2013-05-08T08:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wonderlandmagazine.com\/?p=18567"},"modified":"2013-05-08T08:50:06","modified_gmt":"2013-05-08T08:50:06","slug":"parsons-cancels-john-galliano-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wonderlandmagazine.com\/2013\/05\/08\/parsons-cancels-john-galliano-class\/","title":{"rendered":"Parsons cancels John Galliano class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like <a href=\"\/tag\/john-galliano\">John Galliano<\/a> won&#8217;t be adding &#8216;university lecturer&#8217; to his CV anytime soon. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2013\/05\/John-Galliano-Parsons-Class-Cancelled.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2013\/05\/John-Galliano-Parsons-Class-Cancelled-e1368002798710.jpg\" alt=\"John Galliano Parsons Class Cancelled\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18568\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago, we reported that <a href=\"\/tag\/parsons\">Parsons<\/a> was to host <a href=\"\/tag\/john-galliano\">John Galliano<\/a> for <a href=\"\/2013\/04\/john-galliano-will-teach-fashion-students-at-parsons\/\">a three-day workshop entitled Show Me Emotion<\/a>. Now it seems that Galliano&#8217;s would-be career as a Parsons teacher has been stopped in its tracks.<\/p>\n<p>In an email leaked to <a href=\"http:\/\/fashionista.com\/2013\/05\/parsons-cancels-john-galliano-workshop\/\">Fashionista<\/a>, Parsons administrators announce that the workshop has now been cancelled. \u201cIt was a condition of our agreeing to host Mr. Galliano that we also hold a larger forum, which would include a frank discussion of his career,&#8221; the email states. &#8220;Ultimately, an agreement could not be reached with Mr. Galliano regarding the details of that forum, and so the program will not move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a total 360 for the university, which until recently had been committed to hosting the once-disgraced designer despite calls for him to be dropped. In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/petitions\/parsons-the-new-school-for-design-anti-semitic-fashion-designer-john-galliano-should-not-teach-at-the-school\">an online petition<\/a> demanding his removal garnered over 2,000 signatures. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a person who was fired from Dior for his anti-semitic remarks&#8230; So why is Parsons The New School for Design hiring him?&#8221; the petition asks. <\/p>\n<p>Well, looks like that won&#8217;t be happening anytime soon. <\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, we don&#8217;t know if Parsons dropped him due to student pressure or if Galliano was personally hostile to a &#8220;frank&#8221; (read: probably very uncomfortable) discussion of his career so far. But it&#8217;s an interesting development in Galliano&#8217;s career nevertheless, which has recently seen the designer work quietly behind-the-scenes on Oscar De La Renta&#8217;s show. <\/p>\n<p>Do you think Parsons did the right thing?
