Backstage, the designer&#8217;s slick and cool simplicity was on full display, making it one of our standout shows of the day.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_9272.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12807\" title=\"Backstage at Richard Nicoll AW13 (Image: Hatnim Lee)\" src=\"\/\/media.wonderlandmagazine.com\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_9272-e1357640787694.jpg\" alt=\"Backstage at Richard Nicoll AW13 (Image: Hatnim Lee)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some designers struggle to keep their voice in the transition between womenswear to menswear (and vice versa). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.richardnicoll.com\/\">Richard\u00a0Nicoll<\/a>, thankfully, is not one of those designers.\u00a0The precision and firm grasp of technique that he brings to womenswear was fully applied to his AW13 menswear show to effortlessly slick effect.<\/p>\n<p>The show notes \u00a0promised a &#8220;post-punk no-wave rebellion&#8221; with &#8220;a mix of industrial, classical essentials inspired by Brutalist architecture&#8221;.\u00a0In translation, that meant tone-on-tone wool suiting, neutral blues and industrial greys, super-soft knits and abstract splatter prints &#8211; you could imagine all of it flying off the shelves. There were subtle nods to streetwear: fishermen beanies sat high on models&#8217; heads, while discreet skater chains adorned trouser pockets.
