We’re pretty sure we’ve made a genre up but it works perfectly for Wu-Wu (formerly known as Geniefactory), who we’re categorising as a digi-hippy. Ashley Rose Calhoun, part of Orange County’s Vada Vada collective is making the kind of music you’d expect to hear if you were abducted by aliens, or tripping really hard. It’s futuristic, that’s the digi part, we’ve plucked hippy out from the collective’s attitude, even its name is a made up word that apparently symbolises free thinking without genre placement, sorry Wu-Wu, digi-hippy isn’t a real genre anyway so we’re cool.

There’s some kind of garage beat on “Cherry Jubilee” under a mash of discordant broken vocals, sparkling windchimes, a xylophone and sirens. In the video, Wu-Wu dances like no-one’s watching in the dunes of White Sands. It’s the kind of music to lose your mind to (in the best way) and we’d probably look like we were if we matched Wu-Wu’s moves.
