It was a party at the Rochambeau Fall 2016 show. Laurence Chandler and Joshua Cooper, the designers behind the brand, were influenced by the classic 90s Hip-Hop movie Juice starring the late Tupac Shakur, Samuel L Jackson and Queen Latifah. Juice tells the story of a power struggle between the friendship of four teens living in Harlem, and it was this movie, as well as the hip-hop culture of that time, that inspired the relaxed fitting pants, ponchos and the Nike Air Force One’s seen throughout Rochambeau’s Fall line up.

Hear What You See

As songs like “Treat ‘Em Right” from Chubb Rocks and ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya” by Ol’ Dirty Bastard played seven snap bombers and patch pocket jackets in cream, black and brown hit the runway first layered over sweaters and hoodies. Joggers had elastic cuffs which were pulled up to show off the model’s socks, dungarees in black and navy accompanied turtleneck sweaters and wide leg shorts in khaki and hunter green were more 90s urban friendly than the side zip leggings shown in the first look. Other than the green shorts, a turtle hockey shirt and an orange anorak with brown elbow patched the colour palette stayed on pretty neutral. Overall, this was one of the better showings at NYFW: Men’s. Rochambeau’s streetwear was a nice blend of 90s silhouettes with modern styling and it doesn’t hurt that the music selection had the show moving and grooving as well.
