Photographer Jon Gorrigan and make-up artist Lucy Bridge take a trip through beauty’s fractured glass with the help of model Holly Bickerton.

Wigs, nails, eyes, lips – faces and disguises are discarded and manipulated by photographer Jon Gorrigan and make-up artist Lucy Bridge. “We wanted to bring a darker element to the images, something mysterious, something which draws you in,” Bridge says. On model Holly, glitter resembles tears, nails turn into talons and eyeshadow turns into a statement of deadly intent. David Lynch, this one’s for you.

Vuvuvultures frontwoman and Models 1 girl Harmony Boucher gets a rather dramatic haircut in our new fashion film.

Most normal human beings wouldn’t be up for getting their head shaved, let alone on camera, but we guess Models 1 girl Harmony Boucher isn’t most people. The daughter of a rock musician and the frontwoman of the rather ferocious Vuvuvultures – you can listen to their most recent single, Safe Skin, here – Boucher comes from an illustrious line of rebellious models who dabble in rock’n’roll androgyny (Freja Beha, anyone?) and play fast and loose with the rules of beauty.

“Every few years I get an overwhelming need to start again!” Boucher told us, explaining her motivations behind the shoot. “Shaving my hair off has so far been the most effective way of cleansing both my soul and my ego.”

Take a look at the resulting video and shots, below.

Lifting the lid on how the professionals get the look in our beauty editorials. First up: this bird-of-paradise beauty, perfect for spring/summer.

Chanel SS13 Beauty

“This shoot was all about colour, colour, colour!” make-up artist Lucy Bridge told us. “Bold and bright coloured mascaras and molten metallic shadows are the perfect combination to anyones makeup case – and the super colourful eye and lashes teamed with a bleached brow is perfect for SS13.”

1. The first step for this dramatic eye is the base the eye with Chanel SS13 Exclusive Creation Stylo Eyeshadow in Blue Bay all over the eye lid. Using an eye shadow blending brush blend into the eye crease. Then using Exclusive Creation Stylo Eyeshadow in Pink Lagoon press into the crease and up to the brow bone. Apply a few layers until the colour is really built up and strong. Bring Pink Lagoon under the lower lash line and blend out into the middle.

2. Next using the Exclusive Creation Stylo Eyeshadow in Jade Shore press into the inner corners of the eye using a small smudge brush and blend downwards and underneath the lower lash line. Again layer up to make the colour really prominent.

3. For a total colour clash add 3 coats of Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Blue Note to top and bottom lashes.

4. Using your finger press Levres Scintillantes in Zephyr to the lips. Blot with a tissue for a muted look.

5. Les Beiges Powder was used on the skin for a natural and matte coverage.

Check out our très jolie behind-the-scenes video of our Chanel shoot. Plus, a very special chance to drink fizz and get your hair and make-up done by the Wonderland team in Chanel’s new London boutique in Covent Garden.

We’re all about simple, almost androgynous radiance for spring/summer. So for the Babes Issue, we photographed Select’s Flo Dron for a very special beauty shoot in the sparkly new Chanel boutique in London’s Covent Garden.

Why? Because Chanel Beauty’s creative director Peter Philips is paying tribute to the fresh, outgoing side of the house’s founder, with a new makeup collection called Les Beiges. It’s all about a healthy, natural flush – the kind of glow you might expect from a woman who’s carefree, unpretentious, and gets plenty of Vitamin D.

The first Les Beiges product, the Healthy Glow Sheer Powder, launches March 15, and there’s few better places to check it out than in Chanel Beauty’s new boutique in London’s Covent Garden, which hosts regular events with advice and expertise courtesy of the world’s leading makeup artists,

nail technicians and stylists.
