Joey Aybak is a 22 year old from London who’s throwing out a pretty distinctive alt-pop sound: it’s got a bit of a dance-inducing groove to it, but also reminds you of your misspent early-teen years listening to the best of British, heavily-accented indie (and we mean that as a kind of great compliment). His track from last year, “Visual Diet“, was a nice little introductory piece, but now he’s back with something truly special – that we’re proud to be premiering – in the form of “Weird Faith”.

It infuses an infectious psychedelic guitar riff with some intelligent synth work and, of course, Aybak’s charismatic vocals. According to the man himself, the song is all about “the weird faith we all have in our second versions of ourselves that we put on digital platforms…it’s not good or bad but reflective, and so the weirdness comes from both the absent and intimate/connected ways we interact. It’s also a bit of a love song.” So, listen carefully and see if you can pick up on that theme of double-identity in our social media epoch. Or, failing that, just enjoy the catchy vibes and wait for his EP which is due out early 2016.
