Sometimes we want to be taken completely out of our minds in a way that only music is uniquely capable of doing. Drugs, alcohol, dare-deviling adrenaline… These are intense, forced highs that make us feel depleted afterwards; but music expels a ‘happy’ dosage of dopamine into the brain that makes us feel invigorated and – sometimes – totally spiritual. In fact, even anticipating listening to a great tune can give us that release.

So, what is the best music to lose yourself to? Well, that’s relevant to you and you only, with your unique tastes, routines and moods – maybe you want to shock out to forget the working week and that’s fine, but what about when you need to take a step back from the world and chill? Ambient music has been proven to alter brainwave speed, creating a hypnotic state similar to when a person is in deep meditation.

One of our favourite newcomers on the slow-mo-scene is Holland-via-Dublin’s Hazing. Like the name suggests, he masterfully produces a shoe-gazing, third-eye-opening, debut body of work with his 4 track EP, Joy Void – think breathy vocals, intense, synth-based cinematic music that could sub the Drive soundtrack. The playlist hints at melancholic moods whilst still remaining up-lifting… You know, the kind of euphoria you experience when you come out of a long term relationship and are just finding yourself again. Happy Valley Records will be releasing this stunner on 4th March, and we thoroughly recommend you get your hands on it.

Today we’re premiering Hazing’s lead track What Youth; a reverb-drenched, synth-pop masterpiece which will send you into a prolonged trance-like daydream as soon as you hit play. If you like Sigur Ros or My Bloody Valentine and can never remember directions when walking because you’re lost in your own imagination, then this was made for you. You heard it here first:
