Have you been in other bands before Face + Heel?

Luke: I had a band called The Hot Puppies and a few other bands, but ultimately got fed up with playing guitar music.

Sinead: I had a band when I was 16 (which no-one will ever know about including Luke). But really I’ve always done things solo, so it’s really great to now be in a band and a lot more productive.

What’s your favourite show that you’ve played so far?

S: Mine would definitely have to be Boiler Room although it was the scariest as it was our tenth gig, but it’s one we won’t forget.

L: We played a party at a stately home in Moscow recently, that was pretty memorable. But I think my favourite was our second gig to about 15 people in cardiff. It was funny seeing all of our friends’ faces – they’d not heard us before. It was the first time I thought we might be onto something… When you impress your friends.

Are you pleased with the response that “No Stars” has received?

S:Yeah we’re both really pleased as it was the third song we’d ever made together. It was actually a track I wanted to scrap but glad we didn’t. We finished it late on a Saturday night and put it on Soundcloud at about 1am. We woke up the next day and it had had a mad amount of love; much more than anything else we’d done so far and Ali from Warm [Records] had left us a message saying he definitely wanted to release it.

What are your recording plans for the next few months?

L: As we speak we’re sat round a baby grand piano and are recording our second EP all this week, along with another remix.

If you could play anywhere where would it be?

L: The Womb in Tokyo. Although the version in my head is probably better than the real one. The version in my head looks like something from a William Gibson novel.

S: would love to play in one of the big concert halls like the Royal Festival Hall. Maybe it’s my classical background. Or the fact that it would be nice for my dad to see me play somewhere where no-one asks him if he has any drugs to sell.

You’ve done some remixes. What’s been your favourite track to remix?

L: We’re actually only starting our second remix today. So by process of elimination the Py remix is our favourite! It was really fun to do though in all seriousness.

Where are the main places you’d say that you draw inspiration from when writing a song?

S: We both come from different creative backgrounds, that”s why our music is so unique. I’m from a house-ier background, as well as classical, so I draw a lot of inspiration from these two things both in structure and sound scape.

L: When we first started we had sort of a manifesto of taking inspiration from nature and real-life sensations; sort of like how Debussy did. We try and keep the music and the lyrics a bit abstract, so the listener can put their own emotions into the tracks.
