Davis is the Cali-native singer-songwriting pushing indie rock in new directions. First picking up a guitar (a Gibson 355, to be precise) age 12, he spent his youth listening to Rock’n’Roll heroes like Chuck Berry and Bob Dylan, but also modern greats such as The Strokes, Nirvana and The Libertines. This blend of influences mean Davis has an indie-kid’s understanding of a tight riff and an angry-yet-catchy line, but an old head’s technical brilliance and fret board skills. It makes for a heady combination, particularly on his Jack White-feeling track ‘Crooked Finger’, that we’re proud to be premiering on Wonderland – with a live video to boot.

A cut from his debut album, the song is a raucous, righteous barnstormer that’s brimming with Davis’ unique vocal talent. He said the track’s defiant message (“What’s the lesson? If someone points a finger at you, you point one right back”) was inspired by a run in with a bouncer who refused him entry from a club – we’ve all been there. It’s a sound that will be fondly familiar to anyone who spent their teens treading round sticky floors in skinny jeans and Converse as The White Stripes blared out the speakers. Still, if your adolescence was more thumping Techno and Air Max then fear not, Davis has got his own direction: and it’s one we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
