Why Gina Gershon is perfect casting for the new Versace biopic; plus, the new Annie Leibovitz campaign for M&S, Google Glass debuts in Vogue, how bloggers make money, and Derek Lam‘s newest booze-related venture.

GINA GERSHON TO PLAY DONATELLA VERSACE

Lifetime has just announced Gina Gershon as the actress who’ll bring perma-tanned Donatella to life in their new biopic, House of Versace. It’s basically perfect casting – and also handily foreshadowed in Gershon’s earlier work. Here she is in Showgirls, talking about ‘Ver-sayce’ and wearing a studded black leather cowboy jacket that would make Donatella proud. [Hollywood Reporter]

Grace Coddington in new M&S campaign

ANNIE LEIBOVITZ SHOOTS GRACE CODDINGTON, HELEN MIRREN ETC FOR M&S

It’s not a Harper’s power list spread of British women, but it sure looks like it. M&S has gone upscale with a Annie Leibovitz campaign featuring Grace Coddington, Helen Mirren, Tracey Emin, Ellie Goulding, Darcey Bussell and a host of other leading women, all assembled under the strapline “Meet Britain’s Leading Ladies”. M&S are hoping it’ll revive their fortunes after a disappointing drop in sales. [Sky]

CAN VOGUE MAKE GOOGLE GLASS COOL?

There’s a casting surprise in the September issue of Vogue: Google Glass. The Silicon Valley innovation is making its Vogue debut in a 12-page spread, modelled alongside haute couture. The general aim seems to be about making Google Glass less like like a smug geek accessory and more like a fashion-forward piece of tech. Hopefully they’ll succeed. [NYT]

BLOGGERS ARE MAKING SERIOUS, SERIOUS MONEY

While it might be a struggle for new blogs to get noticed, more established bloggers are raking it in to the tune of a few million. Thanks to savvy partnerships with affiliate programmes like RewardStyle, bloggers can skim a bit of cash off every time a reader clicks on a ‘buy now’ link in their blog. No wonder Garance Doré looks so happy. [Fashionista]

Derek Lam

DEREK LAM WANTS YOU TO BUY HIS WINE

There’s no end to designers’ ingenuity, especially when it comes to brand extensions. So make way for Derek Lam’s newest venture, ‘Poetry by Derek Lam’, a limited-edition wine created in collaboration with Napa Valley’s Cliff Lede Vineyards. The cabernet sauvignon will be available in October. Wonder what kind of booze Marc Jacobs or Karl Lagerfeld would make… [R29]

Fancy snapping up a Chanel 2.55 or a Hermès Birkin bag on the cheap?

BuyMyWardrobe designer sale

We’ve all been there – struck by the sight of someone with an outfit so amazing that you sigh, “If only had her clothes, my life would be perfect.” Enter BuyMyWardrobe.

The designer recycling event originally began as a bit of an industry secret: a hush-hush sale where fashion insiders hawked off pre-loved designer wear. Over the past five years, it’s held 19 events, launched its own high-end alternative to eBay and made thousands of women very, very happy with a bargain (or two, or three).

Don’t expect your average charity shop jumper: sellers are either referred through existing members or vetted through a strict approval process. The BuyMyWardrobe crowd includes fashion editors, stylists; Mimma Viglezio, former Gucci Group Exec, sells through BMW and was so impressed with the enterprise that she came onboard as director.

On 27th April, BuyMyWardrobe hosts another soiree at The Roof Gardens in London, offering the chance to raid the wardrobes of 30 very stylish women from the industry, including bloggers Poppy Dinsey of WIWT and Ella Catliff of La Petite Anglaise.

We spoke to the BMW girls and they’ve told us that the goodies include a Chanel 2.55, Christian Louboutin Daffodile Pumps, a Hermès Birkin bag, so keep your eyes peeled. In keeping with the luxe offerings, you can even upgrade your ticket to VIP, which offers a glass of champagne and a chance to preview the sale an hour before proceedings kick off. Who needs eBay?

We’ve got two pairs of VIP tickets to give away. To win, like our Facebook page and share this post on your wall.
