The beauty industry is one that never stops. Makeup launches happen one after the other, new ingredients are introduced to our skincare routines on a daily basis, and TikTok is oversaturated with the next “big thing” when it comes to techniques to achieve the ultimate flawless skin look. So when I joined a handful of beauty editors for a Parisian lunch last week, and all they could ask me about was “what foundation are you wearing,” that’s when I knew I had found a holy grail.

The product in question was Louboutin Beauty’s new Teint Fétiche Le Fluide: a glowy, extremely comfortable on the skin and rich formula introduced to me by Makeup Artist Morgane Martini on a sunny day in London, as we sat down to discuss her new chapter as Global Makeup Artist for Christian Louboutin Beauty.

“Makeup kind of came randomly on my path,” she tells me, as we start discussing her journey within the beauty sphere. “I was a very creative kid; I always loved to draw and paint. I was super handy, and did literally as many things as you can possibly think of. I always knew I would have an artistic career, but I didn’t exactly know how. One day, my aunt, who was very into makeup, said, ‘You’d be a great makeup artist.’ I was kind of like, ‘Huh, yeah, actually, I would.’”

From being a young girl with fruitful eyes growing up on the French Island of Corsica to becoming a hot industry name and the hands responsible for signing beauty looks to some of the biggest fashion houses of our generation, it’s easy to say that things escalated quite quickly for Martini. But her relationship with Louboutin Beauty is one that feels more like a marriage between creative brains, rather than just a career move. “We started collaborating about a year ago,” she tells me. “When I was approached, I was super excited, obviously. It’s such an iconic brand, and the way Christian makes women feel empowered, sexy, strong, and super chic is amazing. When we met, I felt an instant connection with Christian. We really understood each other and have similar views on beauty and empowering women. I have that with makeup, and he has it with his beautiful shoes.”

As Global Makeup Artist for the French Maison, Martini is not only in charge of giving input on what comes next for its already well-established beauty line, a task that she describes as “the most exciting part of the job,” playing with “textures, colours, and making the brand look even better.” But she’s also ahead of the creative direction behind the brand’s iconic beauty campaigns. And the first offering coming from this fiery collaboration, Le Gallerie Des Looks, is out now. “We thought of this campaign as the Louboutin products being a weapon of seduction, each product emphasising one woman and one type of strong beauty. It was very exciting to work on this,” she adds.

“In the very beginning, when I started makeup artistry, I had an obsession with vintage beauty. I was obsessed with Guy Bourdin, Barry Lategan, Helmut Newton, Andy Warhol — all that era of high glam, super powerful, sexy, but chic women. Between the 60s and the 90s, there was so much colour; it was a time when everyone was discovering the power of makeup and having fun with it. Especially in the 80s, with the colour combos and metallic lipsticks, people were really experimenting. That has always been a big source of inspiration.” And where does she source inspiration today? Well, everywhere. “Everything can be inspiring. It could be the texture of a flower or the shape of a tool you’re using. Inspiration can come from anything.”

As we wrap up our chat, I wouldn’t miss the chance to ask Morgane what other beauty products she’s currently swearing by — and given the audience reaction to my new foundation, I’d recommend you also take notes on this one. So here are MUA Morgane Martini’s five favourite Christian Louboutin Beauty products. Keep reading…
