New York-based creative Nicholas Long, also known as Wavewulf, founded his artistic project after the heartbreaking loss of his parents. Using his inheritance, he invested in a collection of vintage analogue synthesisers and high-quality recording equipment, which ignited the beginning of an expansive and visionary musical journey. Wavewulf’s debut album, “Oscillation”, was released in 2019, followed by the critically acclaimed “The North and the Sea” in 2022. Now, delving deeper into profound themes of the human soul and transformation, he gifts fans with Unbreakable Soul, a striking and emphatic addition to his ever-evolving discography.
The opening title track, “Unbreakable Soul”, immediately sets the stage for the album with its ethereal production and a powerful, evocative backbeat. This serves as a rich, atmospheric backdrop for frequent collaborator Nala Spark, whose expansive and deeply poignant vocals resonate throughout the project. Across the 15-track album – as well as on 2 remixes on the special limited edition CD – Wavewulf takes listeners on an emotionally charged and sonically immersive journey, filled with lush, multi-layered soundscapes, intricate instrumentation, and dynamic, versatile vocals that are woven together with thought-provoking lyricism.
Diving into the project, Wavewulf reflects on the introspective and personal basis behind “Unbreakable Soul”, explaining “’Unbreakable Soul’ is a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit amidst life’s trials. It reflects the idea that no matter what we face, our essence remains unbreakable, and hope persists through perseverance and growth. Inspired by my personal experiences of loss, including the deaths of my parents and nephew, as well as the challenges and joys of making music, the album explores themes of resilience and transformation. Collaborating with Nala Spark, who also faced recent loss, and other talented artists, we infused the record with our collective reflections on life’s struggles and triumphs.
