Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Nick Jaeckel, known as ringgold, has shaped a distinctive indie pop sound influenced by his childhood favourites, ABBA and bluegrass. After gaining attention with standout tracks like “Keeping My Distance”, “In The Morning”, and “love me or let me go”, ringgold is back with his first full-length EP, “Pragma”, featuring the stellar new single, “Thick Of Love”.
On “Thick Of Love”, ringgold immediately captivates listeners with his rich, soulful vocals and deeply emotive lyrics. His personal, raw storytelling—now a hallmark of his music—shines through, offering raw honesty and genuine vulnerability. The track evolves from paired-back production into driving percussion and a refined instrumental arrangement, all of which allow Jaeckel’s poetic wordplay and expressive voice to take centre stage, further solidifying his place as a standout in today’s indie-pop scene and offering a small taste of what’s to come from “Pragma”.
Reflecting on the creation of “Thick of Love”, its themes and narratives, ringgold explains, “’Thick of Love’ was the first song we worked on for the EP, and set the tone both musically and thematically for the rest of the project. The song was born after a series of relationships that all reached a point of imbalance and stagnancy, and I wanted so much to reciprocate the love while also knowing deep down that it wasn’t ever going to come. At a certain point, I started to force myself into these relationships in hopes that the feelings would follow, but I always ultimately found myself back in the doldrums.”
