Sometimes when you attend a concert, you are struck with an overwhelming sense: ‘this is a moment,’ of career, and era, defining magnitude. The monumental outing at the O2 Arena on Saturday 21st September was one of such shows. Nigeria’s certified superstar Asake, who recently shared his critically-adorned, sprawling and progressive new album Lungu Boy, descended onto the cherished London venue to deliver one of the must-see performances of the year.
Backed by incredible stage design, a powerhouse presence and plenty of sought-after guests (Wizkid, Stormzy), it was a night to remember, one that will live long in the memory for Asake himself and all those who attended, and also acts as an illustration of the encompassing impact of Afro sounds in the British music market.
