Founded in the late eighties, Beat The Drum—a dynamic duo consisting of Chris Calloway and Steve Murrell—quickly gained recognition with a series of successful, high-energy singles and a critically acclaimed album before eventually parting ways for many years. After reuniting in 2016, the pair has since explored a diverse range of genres, from avant-garde art rock to electrifying, guitar-driven electronica. This summer, following the release of the atmospheric “Before The Fall” and a bold cover of The Stranglers’ iconic track “No More Heroes”, Beat The Drum returns with their latest vibrant single, “Shine Like A Star”.

In this track, the duo delves into intricate, textured electronic arrangements, blending rich, gritty distortion effects with sleek, sliding electronic sounds over a solid, steady backbeat. The production is anchored by an infectious, earworm hook that demands attention. “Shine Like A Star” stands as a powerful testament to the duo’s ability to continually evolve and fearlessly experiment with new, eclectic genres and influences.

Touching on the track’s elements, the group shares “’Shine Like A Star’ started with a repeating looped guitar and developed into a strangely uplifting hypnotic song. We wanted to get what we describe as a sweet and sour element into the song. So, the verses list negative states of action and of mind but keeps evolving into the chorus which is almost ecstatic. The chorus builds as it repeats and has become a favourite singalong live.”
