Listen to the track…
Delving into the creation of the track, the band shares, “Patience is a track that I have been looking forward for us to release for a long time. The style of beat is exactly the type I like to produce. With a darker sound, ambient synths and 808-style trap drums thrown into the mix. I loved creating another track with a huge sub in the chorus and with a crunchy lead guitar line.
The core of this track is the bass line! A lot of the bass in our earlier stuff is more simple root notes. So, I really wanted to write a line which was catchy and something which would sound way more interesting live!
I usually write all the lyrics last, but on this occasion the first verse was written at the same time as the beat. When I wrote these lyrics, I was feeling very optimistic and like I could do anything.
The lyrics to the second verse and chorus, however, were not written until a year or so after; at a time where I was feeling a bit stuck and defeated. The mood between the two verses is completely opposite, but I felt showing the two sides really worked well with the title “Patience”. It shows the two sides to being a dreamer.
For the drums, we cherished making the drums as loud and heavy as he could in the chorus. As much as we love a light and poppy drum track, Rob draws a lot of his inspiration from bands that he learnt drums listening to such as Angels and Airwaves. He’s not a fan of drum fills but loves to use the floor-tom with a beat to give extra emphasis where it counts. For the verse, we wanted to keep the usual syncopated snare and hi-hat beat which we feel really compliments the bass line.
The guitars on Patience were a lot of fun to work on. As the track is mainly built around the bassline, we wanted the guitars to complement it, rather than take the lead.
The main verse guitar part was written to weave between the notes of the bass. It was actually influenced by some of the guitar parts on In Rainbows which he was listening to a lot around that time.
For the chorus we switch it up and the guitar takes over from the bass as the lead instrument. We had a lot of fun in the studio layering up fuzzes to get that dirty tone. Gave him a chance to use a lot of neglected pedals he doesn’t get to use in Tiyto often [haha].
We love this track, and we are so happy to be sharing it with everyone.”
