Wicked news! Once upon a time, Universal’s film adaptation of the beloved Broadway show was supposed to arrive in theatres on December 25 — a Christmas present to us all. But after moving its release date up to November 27 to avoid competing holiday releases, and then again by a mere five days to dodge a box office battle with Disney’s Moana 2, Wicked now finds itself firmly set for a November 22 debut. But while the team has expertly evaded the musical competition, the first part of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s highly-anticipated film will now hit theatres on the same day as Gladiator II. Though a prequel to The Wizard of Oz telling the story of Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch might not have as much overlap with a historical epic, we’re guessing people are going to be spending all day in the theatre watching both.

The first sign of a symbiotic Wickiator relationship? The Wicked date change arrived just as Gladiator II teased us with a first look at Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal on screen. Directed by Ridley Scott, the sequel follows the 2000 film and sees many of the original cast members reprising their OG roles. The most exciting new addition is certainly Mescal, who plays the youngest son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), Lucius. And let’s just say, he’s not a little kid anymore. Take a look…
