Forward-thinking artist and producer BLK ODYSSY is forecasting depth to his artistry. Unrestricted by genre, the impressive act uses hip-hop, R&B, funk and now indie-rock tendencies to amalgamate a sound full of tonal excellence and colourful expression, rich to the ear and warm to the soul.
BLK ODYSSY has a new record on the way! His third, 1-800-FANTASY will be unveiled on 19th July via EARTHCHILD/EMPIRE, and promises to be another artistic leap for the groundbreaker. A new teaser single has been shared, “Stank Rose”, a gorgeous listen full of buttery timbre, swirling instrumentation and smooth performance. Joey Bada$$, the legendary US MC, brings his usual class and charisma to a guest verse, whilst the video accompaniment, directed by Luis De Peña, is ambitious and entertaining.
Speaking on the video, Juwan of the band said, “‘Stank Rose’ was one of those moments on the album where we tried to mix the sound we were known for with something new. The track has a ton of funk elements, but for my verse, I wanted to keep the vibe of the album. The video shows this dreamlike state where the guy thinks his crush is into him, but when he realises it’s all in his head, his perception starts to distort. Having Joey on this was amazing because he played a more confident version of the character, which was key to the story and fed into the delusion. The track also pays homage to OutKast and their ‘roses’ concept since they’ve always been a huge inspiration.”
