The Jazz Cafe has long been a staple of London’s thriving live music scene, with new incentives sprouting aplenty from the iconic institute. The latest of these is taking place this month, with the venue celebrating the influence of pirate radio on UK music and culture through a series of events. Each Friday, the club will be putting on an event to shine a light on a different movement; first up, happening tonight (7th June), is a jungle and DnB night, followed up UKG next Friday, then grime, and finally UK Funky.
To show our support, we’ve asked a DJ or MC who is set to perform at each night to deliver a playlist of their most iconic tracks or sets from their genre. First up, we’ve enlisted DJ Storm – who will be playing alongside Roni Size and is widely recognised as the ‘First Lady of drum and bass’ – to round up her favourite DnB and jungle offerings. Representing the iconic Metalheadz at their residencies, label nights and solo shows, Storm has become one of the most prominent names in her discipline and continues to break boundaries and shut down venues.
Take in DJ Storm’s picks below…
“I chose these tracks to represent Kemistry and myself while on a Pirate Radio Station Defection FM. They represent some of the top labels and producers around that time and the early exciting time of the fusion of hardcore with Drum and bass breaks, Jungle Bass, and lyrics where there were no rules—a true melting pot time.”
