The rising artist and creative takes us behind the scenes on her recent escapade south for a show in Brighton.
Emmeline is slowly but surely ingraining herself within the inner-mechanics of the UK underground. Since her 2022 debut EP “Satellite Navigation System”, she has metamorphosed stylistically on more than one occasion, showcasing herself as a piercing lyricist, dexterous performer and fluid character. Her most recent release – early May single “LGIK” – is amongst her sharpest turns yet, full of broody atmosphere and intelligent writing.
Emmeline recently took a trip south to play at The Great Escape down in Brighton. We took the opportunity to let the artist immerse us into her world through a photo diary series and some quite hilarious explanations.
Listen to “LGIK”…
Join Emmeline on her trip to Brighton…
Circa 9am: Woke up wide-eyed and raring to go. Shotted ginger and sipped on lemon water = singer’s superstitions complete. Composed myself in the lift before heading to the train station, Rodman in tow.
From dark to light, gold spills over the Thames. Boarded the train to Brighton with only the best of send-offs from our sunny London.
First stop, to the camera shop – to entertain the meta.
And second to Green Door Store, to pick up our passes and catch a glimpse of the other acts (side note: I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entrance to the green door store was, in fact, green).
A pre-show ritual for the day – laying out necessities (show outfit, hairbrush, charger, book, washbag) and getting my personal little fix of sustenance (Sopranos, bread roll).
Then stepping out onto the town, and greeted en route by my fans…
Last minute mirror-checks. Donned stars and sportswear (Emmeline show trademarks).
My view from backstage. Warm-ups included vocals runs and rapping along to the venue playlist. The tongue, the teeth, the lips etc etc.
My view from backstage 5 mins later (bevs supplied by my DJ-extraordinaire Avenhue aka Jake Setters).
And about 35 minutes after that: the post-show ritual!
Circa 4am, walking along the pier, blinking sea-side lights, sun about to rise again. Till next time Brighton…
