BOBBI – HARSH

The Canadian alternative-pop sensation unveils a deeply personal and emotional EP.

Following the resounding success of her expansive and captivating lead single “Bruised”, the emerging and rising star unveils a stunning and evocative EP, marking a pivotal and transformative moment in her discography. Delving into tumultuous experiences and profound self-discovery, the EP was produced by the innovative Model 86 in London and features six meticulously crafted tracks. Titled “Harsh”, it explores raw themes of delusion, struggle, and the confrontation of oppressive societal ideals, all set against lush and intricate musical arrangements that highlight BOBBI’s expansive and dynamic vocal range.

The EP opens with “Lie to Me”, where distorted and haunting instrumentals blend with breathy and ethereal vocals and continues through to the powerful yet stripped-back sounds of the title track “Harsh”, BOBBI’s latest project is a bold, inspired, and groundbreaking contribution to the alternative-pop scene.

Delving into the genesis of the track, “Harsh”, BOBBI shares “The EP was done. but I didn’t know what to call it. When I heard a close friend describing my music as ‘Harsh’, I loved it and knew I wanted it to be the EP title. I didn’t plan to write a song with that title, but one day it just poured out of me. It’s the sum of all the lessons I learned while creating this body of work. We shot the ‘Harsh’ live video at the end of a long day after shooting the ‘Bruised’ live video. We had a couple of hours left, and so we improvised. We scattered the lights on the floor and made them flicker like candles, swelling with the climaxes in the song. Then I quickly set up my laptop, and we went for it.”

Reflecting on the predominantly vocal-driven arrangement of the track, BOBBI explains “I’ll be transparent with you – when I decided to produce the track myself, the creative choice of having a predominantly vocals-only song was initially due to the fact I’m super new to production and wasn’t sure I could pull a big production off. In the end, I can’t imagine the song any other way. I love how a limitation can become our strength, and in so many ways, this song sums that up.”
