L.A. based songstress Monét X Change is primed to make an indelible mark in R&B. The global drag superstar, classically trained opera singer, and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner is shattering expectations of what “drag music” can be as she reinvents herself through authentic and pure R&B storytelling in a way only she can.

On the heels of her highly-anticipated album that promises to be a collection of highly personal, melodic, sexy, and genre-bending R&B songs, she’s unveiled the music video for the album’s lead single, “Body.” The track is a catchy and heartfelt mid-tempo smash about the deep desire for real love and intimacy after years of settling for surface level connections and meaningless sexual interactions.

The visual (directed by her longtime collaborator Patrick Minor) shows Monét in a musical dreamscape as she recounts the suitors of her past and present. Their faces are blurred, highlighting the loneliness Monét feels throughout the song as she yearns for something deeper.

“Body” provides a musical snapshot of what listeners can expect from her upcoming album, as she has carefully spent the last year crafting an R&B sound reminiscent of the one she first fell in love with as a child growing up in Brooklyn. Monét co-wrote the single and the rest of the album with GRAMMY-nominated songwriter, Eritza Laues (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Charlie Wilson) and producer, Cannon Mapp (Melanie Fiona, Jaheim).

If “Body” is any indication, this emerging artist is sure to become the first drag queen to break through the genre in a big way.
