DIVE IN

“DIVE IN” is about the line between passion and obsession. How far do you go to achieve your goals? How deep do you dive? Committing yourself to your dreams seems noble from the outside looking in, but the reality, in DLG.’s experience, is a bit darker than most expect. DIVE IN reflects on dropping the ball, missing calls, dreams, delusions, and diving deeper. Sometimes, in order to make it, passion won’t cut it; only obsession.

KUNG FU

“KUNG FU” is about a girl – one that I have to literally fight my brain to not think about all day. I was trying to embody that feeling of being so consumed by someone. The song takes the phrase ‘she’s a knockout’ to a whole new level.

ICY

“ICY” was the only song on the EP that started as an idea years and years prior. The original version of ICY was one of my earliest songs, but the production didn’t quite sit right with me. I loved the writing though, and decided to reproduce the entire thing from the ground up last year.

OVER MY HEAD

“OVER MY HEAD!” is about having tunnel vision on a goal, and all the wonderful chaos that comes along with that.

STRANGERS

“STRANGERS” is about my girlfriend, I met her only two weeks after moving to LA and we’ve been together ever since. She’s the best person I’ve met, and this song is about how, even from that day, we’ve never felt like strangers.

IT’S ALL GOOD

“IT’S ALL GOOD” was made with my good friend Sam (Pluko) at his studio one day. Despite knowing each other for a while before hand, this was one of the first times we’d actually made music together. I played guitar for about 20 minutes and just played around with some interesting chords, and then Pluko went in and cut out his favorites to create the chord progression in the song. The second half was added later and written around the same time I was creating NO SLACK with Healy.

NO SLACK (feat. Healy)

“NO SLACK” was made during May of 2023. I was living in Venice and rented a nice airbnb to finish up my EP. About a week in, I got incredibly sick, the sickest I’ve been in recent memory. It felt ironic that this would be the one time in forever I got sick, and I was feeling the weight of finishing the project. I honestly just felt like I couldn’t catch a break. A couple days after the worst of the sickness was done, I sat down one afternoon and produced and wrote NO SLACK in a couple of hours. I knew instantly I wanted Healy on it, so I sent it over to him and about a month later, he sent his final verse back. He later shared with me that he had also been feeling the weight of his new city (he’d moved to New York a few months prior) and the song instantly resonated with him.
