BREEZ KENNEDY

We link up with the tranquil R&B/Soul rising star to talk through his huge co-signs and ruminative new track “Who’s Been On Your Mind?”

With a lithely powerful tenor and vulnerable, introspective lyricism, Breez Kennedy has carved a distinct path in the contemporary scene, seamlessly blending nostalgic R&B vibes with modern tropes. Leveraging a strong social media presence, Breez has cultivated a dedicated following that mirrors the evolution of his musical style, fostering a community that resonates with his expansive soundscapes. Garnering nods of approval from industry heavyweights such as Swae Lee, Young Thug, and Lil Tjay, Breez’s ascent culminated last year with a pivotal signing to Def Jam, solidifying his status as a rising star. Now, he unveils his latest offering, the captivating and love-stricken track “Who’s Been On Your Mind?”

Set against a backdrop of gentle guitar riffs, Breez’s emotive crooning inquires, “Tell me who’s been on your mind?, Feel like you wasting my time.” The song’s stripped-back production serves as a canvas for Kennedy’s sincere songwriting and heartfelt delivery, allowing his narrative to captivate listeners with its depth and authenticity. As the track unfolds, it invites listeners into a contemplative journey, where each note resonates with the universal nuances of love and longing.

Congratulations on your newest single, “Who’s Been On Your Mind”! Can you share the inspiration behind track and any messages you’re aiming to convey?

The inspiration behind WBOYM is me and my insecurities. Growing up I’ve always tried to hide my insecurities through acting like I’m unphased by most things but this song I speak about it through heartbreak.

Can you share the creative process behind creating the visuals?

We haven’t shot an official music video yet but for the visualizer it was a gloomy day and it fit the vibe of the song perfectly.

You’ve collected some huge co-signs including Swae Lee, Young Thug and Lil Tjay – how does it feel to receive recognition from these icons?

It feels amazing to have people I spent my teenage years admiring tell me they’re fans of my music. Hopefully I can work with them all one day.

You started your career with influence from Chris Brown and Michael Jackson. How have they shaped your career and what do you find inspiring about them?

My name came from being inspired by CB. I grew up wanting to sing and dance like him. My favourite artist of all time is MJ and ironically, he’s CB’s favourite artist too.

Going from independent to a major label, how has your creative process changed and evolved?

I don’t really feel like much changed as far as my creative process goes. My team always has done a great job with developing me, so I feel like the major label has been a plus on top of what we’ve already been doing.

Your TikTok previews caught the eye of Def Jam; how do you balance social media with your art?

I always used my social media as platforms to express my personality to the viewers. I’m finally figuring out my brand and how to implement it into my content.

How do you envision your continual come-up, and what kind of legacy do you hope to leave with your music?

I feel like within the next two years I’ll be the biggest artist in the world, touring different countries I’ve never been to. I believe in myself and I’m going to put in the work to make it happen.

Can you share what the rest of 2024 has in store for you in terms of upcoming projects, collaborations, and live shows?

In 2024 I’m putting out my first project, hopefully will have everything to put out by April. My goal this year is to also go on tour, the tour I was on just got cancelled so I’m praying a new opportunity comes in.
