For LUAR creative director Raul Lopez’ AW24 collection, Deceptionista, stars such as Beyoncé, Solange, and their mother Tina Knowles gathered at a Brooklyn warehouse.

Lopez has been making waves in the industry and honing his one-of-a-kind voice since launching his label in 2011. Inspired by the low and middle-income communities he grew up among in New York, the cult designer brings a refreshing new perspective to the current fashion landscape. In addition to drawing influences from his Dominican heritage and NYC’s underground nightlife scene, his core focus lies in affordability and accessibility for all gender identities. With prestigious accolades — such as receiving the 2022 CFDA Award for American Accessories Designer of the Year and being awarded as a finalist for the 2023 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers — his work has been worn and supported by the likes of Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, and Kylie Jenner.

Through his latest ready-to-wear pieces, accessories, and lifestyle goods, Lopez takes a closer look at metrosexuality through the perspective of his own fluidity and queer identity – drawing on the Elizabethan era and Rococo art. There are lots of luxe leather in high shine, Mongolian lamb fur, exaggerated structure, sweater dresses, and recurring sheer zebra-print tops. The event also marked the introduction of their new line, LUAR BASICS, which consists of season-less designs for easy, everyday wear.

Daniel “Julez” Smith Jr. (the son of Solange) walked the runway alongside models cast by Rachel Chandler and Walter Pearce of Midland Agency.
