On Alfreda’s return to the mic with “Lipstick” – the tantalising prelude to her highly anticipated upcoming project, “Mother’s Makeup”, the Great American Songbook meets the pulsating rhythms of contemporary synth-pop. Linking up with producer, Moses van den Bogaerde and lyricist, George Petrie, the trio form an enigmatic track. Recorded live in a single take, Alfreda’s honeyed vocals weave through a lush composition harkening back to a bygone era whilst embracing contemporary soundscapes.

Flexing her creative muscles, Alfreda plays her hand here is a visual storyteller, delivering a self-directed music video to act as a visual accompaniment to the nuanced track. Here, Alfreda embraces the spirit of burlesque, enticing listeners with vintage charm.

Alfreda explains “Old Hollywood musicals like ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ inspired this song. One song in particular, was Dean Martin’s version of ‘You’re Nobody til Somebody Loves You’ released in 1960. I was drawn to the glamorous old Hollywood tone. The women’s goal in these movies tends to be love and finding their home in another man. This song is written from the perspective of someone who grew up wholeheartedly believing these ideals, and then starts to question them.”
