BTS WITH NINA COBHAM

The Manchester-based rising singer-songwriter takes us behind the scenes in the making of her new EP.

Over the past few years, Manchester-based singer-songwriter Nina Cobham has been amassing critical and public acclaim for her boundary pushing sound and profound bilingual storytelling. Last week, she returned with a new EP, “Antes”, her most coherent and eclectic body of work to date. It was written whilst in Spain, in a time that she felt uneasy with the world around her.

“Every song on this project was written in 2021, before a lot of the good things in my life right now,” she says. “Back while I was still feeling very lost and taking space to work things out. Antes’ translates to ‘Before’, I wanted to call this little project that because the place I was in when I wrote these songs is a completely different place to where I am now, it’s like a little memory capsule.”

“I started just to feel something and imagining things in the same couple of weeks, while I was staying in a house in Spain which was up the road from our house when I was a kid.”

“For the most part I was there alone, so there aren’t the most photos.”

“The 3 songs on “Antes” were done by sending stems and later finished on Zoom, I recorded / started production on “just to feel something” + “imagining things” before I wanted to bring anyone else on, then I got Jack Laboz on both, plus Zach Ezzy on “imagining things”.

“”effort in” was started in 2021 as well, we worked on that completely on Zoom.”
