With a goal of storytelling at its centre and an ability to evoke emotional responses from an audience, a fashion show is not unlike a stage production. For Luther Ford, the two are actually quite similar. First attending fashion weeks last spring, the actor now has a couple seasons under his belt, and reflects on their initial surprises and what he now loves about the shows.

“I remember I couldn’t believe how short the show was!” Ford laughs as we talk over the phone the morning of the Dior Men’s Winter 2024 show. “Once you know that, it’s exciting, because there’s so much focus going into that moment. You’re so aware of how much work has gone into such a little window. It’s kind of like theatre in a way. There’s so much preparation, so many rehearsals, and a concept to what you’re seeing.”

“Now that I’ve been to a couple more and started to feel more relaxed in the environment, I can take in what’s happening — and they’re crazy spectacles,” he explains. “It’s such an exciting thing to be able to see. You don’t normally get the chance to go to a Dior show.”

There’s no question that getting to wear a full Dior look to the show is also a dream come true, and Ford certainly did it justice. Wearing a look from the label’s Men’s Summer 2024 collection, Ford rocked contrasting cannage prints and embroidered tweed.

“I like the way that all the elements come together. It’s the collection, but also the music and the setting and the lighting,” he tells me, furthering his theory on the connection between fashion and theatre. “I think that’s always exciting — how those things come together. It’s all happening at once.”

Did he have any expectation going into the show? “I like the idea of not knowing. When you go into another world, it’s fun when you don’t know what to expect.”
