WonderAwards: Celebrate Beauty Talent of 2023

WONDERAWARDS: BEAUTY TALENT 2023

Succubus chic, grunge glam, metallic lips and bleached brows; 2023 was the year of shifting from rigid trends to celebrating diverse moments of self-expression.

From waxy to skinny brows, #GRWM overshares, doughnut glazed *everything*, succubus chic, grunge glam and the weird meeting the wonderful, 2023 has been a year bursting with beauty talent, disruptive techniques and dazzling new products. However, amidst core trends within the scene, it was clear creativity thrived, with self-expression taking center stage and curiosity fuelling creations.

On the runway we saw gothic themes dominate, such as Kabuki’s creation for Moschino’s SS24 show, choosing dusky eyes and black lined lips, followed by Grace Maria Ellington’s ultimate embodiment of emo chic for Masha Popova SS24, complemented by duck shaped nails, box-dye inspired hair and sultry, burnt tones. Celebrities such as Gabriette and Amelia Gray have also championed hollowed cheeks, moody under eyes and 90s brows, otherwise known as “succubus chic” (think vampire princess meets high fashion.) Celebrities such as Gabriette and Amelia Gray have also championed hollowed cheeks, moody under eyes and 90s brows, otherwise known as “succubus chic” (think vampire princess meets high fashion.)

On the other end of the palette, we saw powdery, cloudy, ethereal moments by Ana Takahashi for Chopova Lowena SS24, with rosy cheeks, eclectic hues and diffused, mismatched eyeshadows. The “clean girl” aesthetic still holds its place in the hierarchy, with Prada’s SS24 look by Lynsey Alexander, showcasing lowkey, sleek looks and 16 Arlington’s SS24 makeup by Lauren Parsons revealed understated, “no makeup” makeup, allowing the collection to do all the walking and talking.

DRAG

Meanwhile in the online world, founder of Rhode, Hailey Bieber, sparked multiple minimal, yet delicious, beauty rituals. To name a few; strawberry makeup, latte makeup, donut skin and sugarplum complexion, all whilst single-handedly reclaiming the resurgence of the bob.

We were transported back to the roaring 20s with Georgio Armani and Jason Wu’s SS24 collections. Gelled finger hair waves framed faces down the runway, prompting folks at home to try it themselves. We’re left wondering if perhaps the sleek, facelifting bun will take the back seat in 2024, as more undone and effortless up-dos seemed to have graced us in the last season? Get ready to say goodbye to hair-induced headaches!

How could we fail to mention the TikTok-fuelled trend “Coquette core”, with 2023 honouring the beauty of the bow? The marrying of “girlycore” and sultry old English elegance, has just about filtered into every aspect of the fashion and beauty world, from lacey details, silky textures and of course, bows, bows and more bows. We say long live the bow!

Ultimately, there has been an abundance of viral bookmarks that summarise the beauty bests of the year. But with any major beauty moment, comes a mastermind behind the scenes. That’s why we have tapped into our beauty directory, to ask rising talents, industry experts and artists to reflect on some of their favourite glam highlights of 2023.

ALINA SAMSONOVA

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Probably all my clients and models already know that I can’t live without this cream – Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream. This unique moisturiser has the power to transform your skin, leaving it with a radiant, youthful glow. It serves as the perfect base for makeup, making your skin look and feel supple and healthy. For me it’s the foundation of a perfect makeup look.

Also, I can’t imagine my life without Eisenberg’s concealer. This product has an airy consistency that makes it a dream to apply, and it blends effortlessly with your skin. It’s my go-to concealer because it never fails to give a perfect finish.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
This year, I’ve become utterly captivated by the unique charm of Gucci and Serge Lutens Lipsticks. There’s something about their deep, enigmatic shades that resonates with my creative ethos. Each color tells a story, evoking a blend of classic elegance and contemporary edge.

A PRODUCT YOU WILL REPURCHASE:
The Chanel Les Beiges Cream Bronzer has become a staple in my kit. It’s one of those rare finds that blends impeccably with almost every look I create. Its longevity is remarkable – it seems to last forever, which is a testament to its quality and versatility.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
One of my most cherished creations this year was for a DEFAÏENCE campaign shoot. The look encapsulated a pristine, fresh vibe, adorned with delicate, airy accents. It was a harmonious blend of minimalism and sophistication – a testament to the beauty in simplicity.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
2023 has been the year of “Monochrome magic” in makeup. There’s something profoundly captivating about the simplicity and cohesion of a monochromatic palette. It challenges me to explore the depths of a single color, experimenting with its various shades and textures to create looks that are both harmonious and striking.

EMILY WOOD

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
I’ve been carrying a lash curler round with me since school, I remember always having one in my blazer pocket. It’s my favourite makeup product. A bare face with a lifted lash is so chic. My favourite are Kevyn Aucoin’s curlers. With time management not being my strongest attribute, I’m always grateful for how much of an impact a little curl can have on my face

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Guerlain eyeshadows. I would say they’re perfect actually. The pigments are extraordinary, they possess this shadow-cream hybrid texture, which makes them really easy to blend and the finish is always seamless. They are also very versatile – I use them for frosted face paints, metallic lips, smoky liners et… The colours are enchanting.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Plastic stem mascara wands. Instead I promise to forever replace them with VON Bamboo Mascara Wands (they are an eco-friendly alternative to plastic ones.) VON offer sustainable single-use beauty products that we should all be swapping to.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Cloudy matte textures and powdery finishes.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
There’s a spot in a forest back home that I love going to and filming makeup looks. Last time I went, my nana joined me. I painted her lids powdery green using 3ina All The Colors palette. That’s my best look of 2023.

SEAN BRADY

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:Emma Lewisham Illuminating Oil Cleanser. I often will play with makeup at home and it just takes everything off. Your skin feels so much better for it.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Unseen Beauty products. The reflective paints are so unique, and I love the ethos behind the brand.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
A 40 colour lip liner range from Ali express haha, dust mama!

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Metalic lips.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
That’s hard! I can’t make a decision on what I’ve done on other people but, look that I’ve done on myself would be my Halloween moment. When it’s just for yourself and character driven you can really play. Boo!

JINNY KIM

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Yves Saint Laurant Touche Eclat High Cover Radiant Concealer #1.5. It is very easy to use as it is pen-like. I apply around the eye area, especially under the eyes for dark circles It’s a recommended product for touch-ups because it’s easy to carry around. Especially on days when you’ve overslept and don’t have time for a full makeup routine, simply swipe the pen over dark circles, laugh lines and forehead. Add a touch of lip gloss and brow mascara, and you’ve completed a natural makeup look

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
NARS, Afterglow Liquid Blush “Orgasm”. NARS blush seems to be a product that perfectly captures the charm of women who share love, just as its name suggests. Particularly, the liquid texture creates a seamlessly blending colour and a natural complexion, portraying a look as if it naturally reflects one’s own inherent rosy glow.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Gucci Nail Polish. As a Makeup Artist, the essential product you should add to your kit is natural nail polish. If the team doesn’t have a nail technician, MUA needs to apply nail colour (or at least check thr models’ nails.) I tried Nail Polish from Gucci and it was too watery and the pigment in the colour was disappointing. To see the intended shade, I had to apply it at least 3 times. Most notably, it wore off easily.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Face and Body Jewellery and playing with bold colour. It seems like it was a season that showcased the limits of makeup. Despite the ongoing trends of natural and Y2K shimmery makeup, many people, myself included, experimented with various looks using gems.

The diverse combinations of colours and textures, reminiscent of viewing a masterpiece, and the three-dimensional harmony of gems, akin to contemporary art, made it the most enjoyable beauty trend for me.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
It was actually a beauty test shoot, as I loved this model, AJUS from Models1. My idea was to contrast colours, as her skin tone is a lovely deep colour.

I intended to create maximum contrast with her beautiful skin tone by using a neon lime colour. To complement her smooth and glossy natural skin texture, I opted for a matte and soft texture. I expressed the curves covering the eyebrows with an over-shape, that harmonises with her soft facial lines, ensuring not to miss out on the fun.

DEVON PELLETIER

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Isamaya Beauty Industrial palette. I use it to create unique, metallic and shimmery eyes. What I love about it is its unique formulation and textures. It gives me a lot of room to play around with.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
The Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Setting Powder. It has such a beautiful skin-like finish, whilst making my make up super long lasting.

PRODUCT LINK:patmcgrath.com

PRODUCT LINK:patmcgrath.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
I don’t buy makeup often anymore other than small things, but the original DUO Lash Glue latex. I have never really been able to work with the formula, it’s not my favourite.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Seeing people experiment more with make up, making it less than about beauty standards, and more about the art of makeup itself…And the skinny eyebrows.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
I created this with no real expectation or idea, just seeing where the brush took me. I wanted to treat myself almost like a canvas .

GEORGIA OLIVE

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
MAC Colour Excess Gel Pencil Eyeliner in carbon black lives in my waterline every day of my life. I honestly don’t feel like me without it. I also tightline with it, then add a really tiny wing at the outer corners, where the waterline and tightline meet, to extend the eye. This compliments my deep set, slightly hooded, eyes a lot more than a standard wing extending from the upper lash line. I have such watery eyes and this is one of the few liners that stays put.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
MAC Squirt Plumping Gloss in Jet (black). It creates a similar look to the Isamaya Beauty Black Veil Liplacq, but without the glitter. It’s so comfortable to wear and looks great over a nude liner.

PRODUCT LINK:maccosmetics.co.uk

PRODUCT LINK:maccosmetics.co.uk

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Any mascara that’s not Maybelline Skyhigh.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I’m a total sucker for “succubus chic”. The skinny brows, dark eyes and contoured cheeks with a taupe lip…chefs kiss. It’s pretty much the only look I wear. I also love taking it a step further and ditching under eye concealer for a touch of brick red blush to go full vampire.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
It has to be the look I created on Ashnikko for the Brit Awards. The face makeup is so clean, structured and ethereal, whereas the prosthetics are actually quite grotesque. Nothing makes me happier than marrying the beautiful with the weird.

ANGEL MY LINH

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
My beauty staple in my kit at the moment is cuticle oil! I put it on my cuticles religiously, every morning and every evening, especially during the cold weather. I can’t live without it as it keeps my nails healthy and promotes growth, as well as strength and durability of the nail.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Proform by The Gel Bottle. This range is life-changing as it gives the look and strength of acrylic without the smell. Most importantly it’s “hema- free”, so it’s great for clients with allergies and sensitivities who, in the past, may not have been able to achieve the look they wanted.

PRODUCT LINK:thegelbottle.com

PRODUCT LINK:thegelbottle.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Gel hand sanitisers. Since using sprays, I’ve really noticed a difference in feel on the hands. Unfortunately, gel sanitisers have a way of leaving a tacky and greasy residue on the skin, as well as a very unappealing smell. Gel sanitisers also unfortunately don’t mix well with other hand moisturisers, which is super important to include in manicures for hydration.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
The comeback of airbrush. I absolutely love the patterns, designs and stencils that you can achieve with airbrushing. It’s a way to create different gradients as well as give a nod to the 90s/00s culture.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
Definitely the “sushi set” that I created at the end of this year! I love playing with textures and 3D pieces plus, this set mixes my favourite things- nails and food!

AOIFE CULLEN

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
I couldn’t do mine, or other’s makeup, or go to bed without Weleda Skin Food! It gives my skin everything it needs. I love the feeling of the weight of it as a base under makeup, and after a double cleanse. I love it for shoots as well since it quickly preps the skin beautifully.

I’m also very loyal to black eyeliner which I wear on my waterline blended out everyday. I really love the Kat Von D Tattoo Pencil Liners because they stay put in the waterline, it’s super black and long wearing, it never smudges. Black eyeliner makes me feel the most myself and I am always excited to put it on before I go anywhere.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Queen Cosmetics Glosses really blew me away when I first received them as PR. They are amazing quality with really unique shades, even holographic. They look so good lightly blended on top of a nude liner for an everyday look or lathered on top of a fun, colourful base for a shoot for editorial. They photograph so stunningly especially with flash on, so the holographic flecks pop out.

Also Jecca Black Brow Gel and Seal for brow blocking. This really changed the game for me because I could never get along with glue to block them, but the Jecca Black products are so easy to use and create the smoothest, cleanest brow cover that doesn’t budge – and you don’t need layers of concealer and powder after, so it never looks bulky or heavy.

PRODUCT LINK:queencosmetics.store

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:Any full coverage foundation or concealer. This look just really is not for me because I don’t enjoy how my skin looks and feels if I can’t see my freckles or real skin underneath.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Weird lips and people just having more fun with makeup. I’ve enjoyed seeing the mold of creative makeup break away from and being limited to graphic liner. I feel like it’s opened up a whole new avenue for creative makeup artist’s, enthusiasts and consumers in the industry. It’s really forced and allowed people to generally be more brave and daring with their makeup.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This look instantly comes to mind. I’m totally in love with the pale lip against overly bronzed skin and mint green blush. I especially think the blush is sooo flattering and unique. The combination of colours as a whole are just so satisfying to me. I also remember being so, so excited when I was creating and did the silver brows. It’s my favourite feeling, especially when in the creative zone. I also kept this on for hours and hours after I finished and kept looking in the mirror in admiration and pride, if I do say so myself!

MANUEL MONTANARI

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
A quality, natural-scented mist. It’s the hero behind the scenes, setting the stage for a flawless makeup routine while keeping the skin well hydrated. Because who doesn’t love a touch of luxury, and a hint of heavenly scent in their skincare prep? My absolute favorite is the Concentrated Brightening Essence Mist from Tata Harper.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Let’s talk about beauty revelations this year – for me, it’s all about diving into Isamaya Beauty’s eye palette. Picture this: shimmery eyeshadow on the lips, cheeks, under the eyes. No powdery mess, just pure nonchalant glam.

PRODUCT LINK:isamaya.co.uk

PRODUCT LINK:isamaya.co.uk

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
A definite pass for me would be latex-based fake eyelash glues. It’s like a beauty betrayal waiting to happen! Who knew so many people are unknowingly allergic? Not cool, neither professional. So, I’m waving goodbye to latex and diving into glues that keep the drama on the lashes, not on the skin. Here’s to avoiding beauty drama and keeping it chic!

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Diving into the beauty trends of 2023 has been a blast! It’s a playground of experimentation with textures, colors and positioning that breaks all the rules. Compared to previous years, it’s less about technicalities and more about an idea and having fun around it.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This photo stands out for me. It captures a moment of rounded cheeks, yellow eyelashes and glossy skin on a stunning Hijab model. There’s something audacious about playing with unusual colors and positions, creating a character that feels real yet not quite.

FRANKIE DARLING

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Lip liner. Specifically, Charlotte Tilbury lip cheat “Pillow talk Intense”. I like to use it alone without any other lip products, sort of a 90s vibe. I don’t feel myself without lip liner, it doesn’t matter where I’m going, or what I’m doing – my lips will be lined! I think wearing a dark lip liner and a bare face looks effortlessly good.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Violette_fr Yeux Paints specifically shade “dieu bleu”. I’m a sucker for anything electric blue, and these little paints pack a bold punch. An honourable mention goes out to Glisten Cosmetics Spectra Lash Mascara. If you’re a coloured lash lover like me then you’ll love these.

PRODUCT LINK:violettefr.com

PRODUCT LINK:violettefr.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Full coverage foundation. No hate to the full coverage lovers out there, I think it looks beautiful and I admire the art of full glam – it’s just not for me. At least right now, who knows for the future.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I’m not the biggest beauty trend supporter as often I feel like we are just recycling styles and rebranding them with catchy names. If I had to choose one, I’d say bleached/ no brows. This look has been around for decades so it isn’t really a trend, but now there are lots of products to make it more accessible in case you don’t want to commit with the bleach or razor. It’s so cool and editorial, but can also be super wearable.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
It would have to be this soft, smoked out, neon purple wing with a spectral blue pop in the center. I have been obsessed with pairing blues and purples together, with the added bleached brow, *chefs kiss* (if I say so myself)… It’s everything I want in a look – simple, editorial, and wearable!

MIKAI MCDERMOTT

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Concealer. I use it to conceal dark circles and for any hyperpigmentation. The formula is a dream! It’s so creamy, has great coverage and is compact enough to use on the go. I always have one in my bag as it’s great for touching up when you’re on the go.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Isamaya Beauty Industrial Colour Pigments Palette 2.0. It’s a beautiful collectible, fun and filled with gorgeous shimmers that are complex and versatile.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable gloss has beautiful shades, but isn’t very spreadable. I much prefer their lip oils.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Shaved/bleached/thin brows. I love seeing people take creative risks with their makeup and trying new things. The girls that get it, get it!

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This was a group effort between myself and Isamaya French’s beauty team for her Halloween party. I love how bold and strong the liner is, and how the pink shimmery blush also makes the look soft and playful. It’s fun and multifaceted, just like me. It really expresses how much I’ve grown with makeup. It’s allowed me to try new things and increased my confidence. It’s been a great year in beauty for me!

YOI WAN

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
A beauty staple in my make-up routine has to be the M.A.C Costa Riche Eye Kohl. Scribble it around the eye, blend out and there you have a lovely coffee stained eye look. I love it because it’s an easy, super soft creamy product that worn on it’s own gives that grunge, slightly undone look. It’s also great as a base for other eyeshadows applied on top.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
KIKO Milano long lasting eyeshadow sticks! I love a cream product and these are so creamy and pigmented. These are now my go to eye products in my kit.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Glossier skin tint.. It just doesn’t do much for me.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Bleached brows!

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This look I created on @mynameiszinzi is one of my favourites this year. I love to incorporate graphic elements within my work and this spikey liner and lash duo with the glossy zebra lips feel like they’re meant for each other.

SASKIA PUXLEY

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Two words; line brush! ! I couldn’t do what I do without my line brush. I believe a good brush is the key to incredible nail art. I have been painting since I can remember and from a young age my mother (a super talented artist herself) taught me the importance of a good brush. I specialise in detailed paintings when it comes to nail art, so I use my line brush for 99% of all my work no matter the style. I use BQAN 11mm Line Brush, which you can buy on Amazon, she’s only £4.79.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Sissi clay changed the game for me this year. This stuff is incredible. As the trend for 3D nail art has grown so much, it has been essential for nail artists. If you don’t know what Sissi clay is, I will explain… It’s basically gel that is harder, similar to play dough. You hand mold it to whatever weird, funky shape you like, and once you’re ready to cure, put it under the UV lamp and – voila! Ready to go! It’s so fun to use, I find it hard not to use it nowadays.

I have to also shout out Mii Cosmetics as well because I love their products. The quality is amazing and they all smell beautiful. Both of these companies are vegan and cruelty free.

PRODUCT LINK:sissiofficial.co.uk

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Honestly, I haven’t come across a product I won’t be purchasing again, however I do have products that I don’t like to use, but I will if my clients request them.

As a painter I don’t like to use stickers, sorry guys! I don’t like the way they look and truthfully I would rather hand paint the design any day.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I have really enjoyed seeing how creative nail artists have been this year. It’s been truly inspiring seeing all these different people around the world creating such innovative work. It feels like people are just getting stuck in and aren’t afraid to try something new.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
My favourite set of nails that I did this year were inspired by the cover for Peggy Gou’s single “Jigoo”. The artwork, by Jee-ook Choi, is a stunning illustration of a black cat amongst beautiful plants, flowers and stunning colours. I love cats (If you know me, you know this), so I wanted to elaborate on this theme of a black cat in a mystical and ethereal space, hence the use of butterfly wings on the second cat.

I’m really into nature and growing up most of my life near Brighton, big fields and woodlands feel homely to me. Since being in London for many years, I like to incorporate nature into my work as a bit of escapism. I found a number of amazing references for this set on Pinterest to go with my theme, unfortunately none of the posts have tagged the original artists so I’m not able to credit them.

JULIAN STOLLER

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
I don’t use makeup on myself day to day, I usually just wear moisturiser and SPF. I’ve gone through two XL tubes of the Dieux Instant Angel moisturizer this year, which is amazing and works great under makeup. The texture is somewhat rich without being too heavy and I love everyone behind the brand.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
The Haus Labs Triclone concealer, which has an extremely unique formula. It creases less than any concealer I’ve worked with before and is incredibly blurring on the skin.

PRODUCT LINK:hauslabs.com

PRODUCT LINK:hauslabs.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
I don’t really use body oils or body shimmer anymore. To make the body look extremely glossy on set, I only end up using olive oil shine spray from the beauty supply store.

I like using spray sunscreens for body glow in less controlled environments because they don’t transfer as much onto clothing and hair. And I always love the Isamaya Beauty Skinlaq on the body.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Metallic lips.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This look that I did on Maya Stepper for the Heaven x Home in Heven bag campaign. It was based on a sketch that I had made of Maya, and I was lucky enough to have the time on set to make it feel like an illustration.

DAVID GILLERS

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
Isamaya beauty SKINLACQ Tripple Hyaluronic Glow Serum. I use it in multiple ways, as a skincare layer under the foundation, mixed into a foundation to add a glow or as a highlighter applied over high points of the face, with my hand or beauty blender.

I love this product so much as it is a great, versatile moisturising serum, that not only softens the skin and nourishes it but also has a beautiful blend of pigments added that will dial the glow to the max if need be.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Too Faced Lip Injection plumping lip glosses, even at max strength, I saw no results.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I Like that beauty went to the grungier side of things this year. We saw multiple launches of murky, khaki, mossy green palettes that were a breath of fresh air in my eyes.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
I loved this shoot. A lot due to the team involved. It was shot and styled by the extremely talented Tré Koch (@trekoch) and the beautiful hair was made by the hair genius that is Louis Souvestre (@louissouvestre).

It’s extremely inspiring when the whole team speaks the same creative language and that was one of those shoots.

AIMEE TWIST

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
I can’t live without white eyeshadow at the moment, particularly MAC – Gesso. I use it for everything. From eyeshadow, to highlighting areas of the face. I always find myself reaching for it when it comes to a look. It’s definitely the 90s vibe essential product for me.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
I discovered the About Face Beauty – Matte Fluid Eye Paints, and I’m obsessed with them. They are so easy to use and you can mix up the colours. I use them as a base for most of my colour eyeshadow looks. Love them!

PRODUCT LINK:aboutface.com

PRODUCT LINK:aboutface.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Sadly, it’s probably Soap Brows. This used to be a kit staple for me, but I just don’t find myself reaching for it anymore. It’s a great product for that laminated brow effect, but it’s not the most quick and easy to use product. I’m probably much more into a skinny brow these days.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
“Grunge Glam” has definitely made a comeback this year, and I’m so here for it. It’s something I naturally gravitate towards. I’m a smokey eye kind of girl and I like my looks to have a bit of a worn edge, even if I’m doing something natural. It’s nice to see current styles embracing that lived in kind of glam.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This is favourite look because it combines my favourite elements; white and lilac eyeshadow that’s blended down the face with a fun ombré lip with a gloss! I love mixing softer elements with something bold and colourful.

WILMA STIGSON

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
LH Cosmetics Infinity Palette and Infinity Deep Palette Colour palette. They are so good for creating any look because they have great payoff for making a subtle or heavy look. You can water activate them for making liners and they are cruelty free and vegan.

Having those three palettes in my kit makes me feel secure. I can do any skin tone, something natural, creative or glam with no problem.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
ICONIC London Super Smoother Blurring Skin Tint. Iconic London is a new find for me this year and I love everything they do. This foundation is very smooth and gives everyone the best skin finish. It covers and gives a nice glow.

PRODUCT LINK:iconiclondoninc.com

PRODUCT LINK:iconiclondoninc.com

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
A normal brow gel or brow mascara again, when you can use Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I am happy about skinny brows making a comeback, however I don’t want anyone to over pluck them like they did in the 90s.

Instead I just love to block the brow and to paint a skinny brow over it, or to block half of the brow off to give the same kind of look.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
This look got a lot of hype, and I love it. It’s captured by Chloe Bowman (@_chloebowman_), it has such a retro feel to the picture and the look itself. It has that 90s feel of an old MAC campaign and the girl everyone wanted to be in that era.. The angsty slept in smudged black kohl around the eye, too much mascara, brown lip liner with some metallic gloss on top, all matched with a skinny brow that gives a retro nod to the 20’s, and finished it off with the powder finish to the skin. The halfway mid blink is an appreciation of heroine chicness – not giving a damn about anything, having a good time and being young and fabulous.

MICHAEL BROOKS

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
I use so many different products and my routine changes all the time because I’m always trying new things. I always go back to are Got2b Glued Spiking Glue for my brows (when they have not been bleached.) I use it to gel them up and lay them flat to my skin for a ‘laminated’ looking effect. I will also use it to just brush the brows upward but not lay them flat for a more natural looking brow. I love this product so much because of its amazing hold (my brows NEVER budge), it dries down clear and it gives them a glossy sheen that I really like. I’ve been using this gel in my brows for years and it’s never once failed me.

I also will always go back to MAC Fix +, I use it as a finishing spray after I’ve finished working with my powder products. A layer of this spray seamlessly blends all of my wet and dry products together, for a more skin like finish, instead of a powdery finish. I’ve tried many other mists and sprays, but I always go back to this one.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
The Mehron Paradise Makeup AQ 30 Color Pro Palette. This palette may not be new to the beauty world but for me, I tried it out for the first time this year, and I absolutely love it. If you don’t already know of the palette, it’s a 30 colour palette of water activated paints.

I love products that can be used in more than one way, and this one definitely delivers! I’ve used this for line work, as well as painting designs on my face. It gives rich pigment and a smooth texture.

Plus, there’s so many colour options and opportunities to mix custom shades. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it. This is one of those products I could find a way to use in all of my looks, whether it be a simple winged liner or something more experimental.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
I haven’t purchased a product I didn’t like/wouldn’t re-purchase! I am very fortunate to be sent a lot of beauty products regularly to try out. Therefore when I decide to purchase a product with my own money, I am very intentional about what I choose to spend on. I have been very lucky in that everything I’ve purchased for myself has worked out in my favour.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
My favourite trend that I saw a lot of was minimal skin. Seeing more of a “less is more” approach is always interesting to me, as someone who wears a lot of makeup. I like that even folks with “normal looking” skin, were not afraid to wear less and let what’s naturally there show through. I saw a lot of skin tints and serum based foundations being used and personally, I really enjoy this kind of product.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
I have a hard time picking favourites, because I see something special in every look that I do. This Beyoncé and Emilio Pucci inspired look has to be my top favourite. It took me so long to do and used up so much of my brain power, but the end result is something I am very proud of. I think it’s eye catching, interesting and so beautiful.

JEZZ HILL

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
When it comes to my makeup routine, I keep things very simple, and I prioritise skin.

My favorite concealer is Dior Backstage Flash Perfector. I love that it stays all day, it doesn’t crease and it feels like skin. After applying sunscreen, I selectively apply the smallest amount possible, focusing on areas needing coverage. I blend seamlessly using my fingertips for a flawless natural finish.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Eye creams. I’ve become a fan of using serums and reusable eye patches.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I don’t care much about trends. I care more about changes and evolution.

I like how the beauty industry has shifted from rigid trends to celebrating diverse moments of self-expression. People now embrace their unique features, styles and identities, creating a more inclusive and empowering environment.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
I love the interplay of textures and colors in this look. I especially love how the blue bleeds into the creases of the lips, adding a dynamic element to this image.

GISELLE ALI

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
A reusable lash separator. This helps to define lashes so you can reapply and build up to the desired thickness. They are great for making your lashes look like falsies!

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Anything from Saie makeup, it’s not often a new brand comes with anything groundbreaking, but all the products are so high performance, 10s across the board. I’m especially obsessed with their bronzers and the brushes – super soft, lush!

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Any powders with a talc based formula. It’s carcinogenic and there’s simply no need.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
Watching Tiktokers glue down their brows with that honey wax stuff- it’s so facinating. Not my vibe, but I love the extremes of self grooming!

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
The GUAP GALA awards. I was nominated for an award but I’m socially awkward especially at events, so a full body paint was the perfect disguise. I felt sexy and confident in blue!

MARINA MANSOUR

BEAUTY ROUTINE STAPLE:
If you want a real glow, you need a good retinol/retinoid in your evening routine. I’m using the Skin Rocks The Retinoid 2, and I love it.

I used Retinoid 1 (lower strength) for about 9 months then moved on to Retinoid 2 (higher strength) when my skin got used to it. Vitamin A is so beneficial for the skin, it encourages cell renewal, reduces the appearance of fine lines and dark marks.

I use this 2-3 times a week in the evenings after cleansing, applying it on a clean, dry face (vitamin A is the only active that needs a dry vs. damp face for absorption). I wait 10 minutes and then I follow with a rich moisturiser. I’ll combine this with an oil on top, if I need some added hydration.
The next morning, my skin will be GLOWING when I wake up and I’ve never had any irritation, which is rare with a higher strength retinoid/retinol.

A NEW PRODUCT DISCOVERED THIS YEAR:
Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum is incredible for brightening and evening out your skin tone (I just repurchased it actually, it’s sitting in a SpaceNK bag in front of me!) I use it in the morning, after my toners and essence and before my moisturiser.

A PRODUCT YOU WON’T REPURCHASE:
Rare Beauty Silky Touch Highlighter in Exhilarate – I’m a highlighter addict. I was disappointed with this one, unfortunately.

However, I’d really recommend the Viveve Skin Dew if you like a liquid highlighter, the original Fenty Beauty KillaWat in Hustla Baby if you prefer a powder or the Westman Atelier Highlight stick in Nectar, if you prefer a balm.

FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREND IN 2023:
I was really into the “unapproachable makeup” trend which blew up on TikTok over the summer. It’s a fierce take on the fox-eye that comes with an attitude. Basically,I love that playing with makeup and beauty can unlock a whole different character, that doesn’t need to feel like the person you are all the time.

FAVOURITE LOOK YOU CREATED IN 2023:
I actually did a take of the ‘unapproachable makeup’ look + bleached out brows for the GQ MOTY party, pic here. To me, there’s nothing that feels more glam than a winged liner and bleached brow, but in a way that’s interesting if you know, and probably a little peculiar if you don’t lol. You will more often than not catch me with a slick bun – I love that bordering-on-alien look – and usually something big and silver, jewelry-wise.
