BLOOMING HAUS

We connected with the Chelsea-based luxury florists to discuss all things business, from the biggest achievements of 2023 to the main goals for the new year.

What a year 2023 has been for the luxury florist powerhouse Blooming Haus! Having secured some of the biggest fashion events in the city for their portfolio, the visionary floral studio solidified its reputation as one of the biggest names in the field in London. From large installations and corporate events to editorial projects, galas, and personal celebrations, the Chelsea-based masterminds bring their extraordinary floral arrangements to the finest soirées all over the UK—and now, they want to expand their reach even further, planning to venture overseas in the new year.

“Not all floristry is a true art form, yet we’ve always felt like blooms were our paint. When we delved deeper into this, we realised that creating floral masterpieces was our true calling,” share founders Michal Kowalski and Michael Dariane. More than excelling when it comes to designing breathtaking botanical arrangements, Blooming Haus also works incessantly to become a sustainable and purposeful business, taking on a handful of projects that focus on minimising waste and environmental impacts.

Here, we connect with Blooming Haus founders to discuss all things business, from the biggest achievements of 2023 to main goals, and what we can expect from them in the new year.

How has 2023 been treating you?
2023 has been a landmark year for Blooming Haus! We’ve grown in size, got a new, much larger studio space, became B Corp certified and an approved member of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). It’s been an exciting whirlwind! We’re enjoying every moment of our journey, embracing new challenges with a growing brand, and learning to become even better at what we do. The highlights for us this year have been working on some truly magnificent events executing detailed briefs for some of the world’s biggest brands and well-known figures.

Talk to us about how Blooming Haus was born. How did you fall in love with the craft?
Like many people working in or with nature, Blooming Haus was born from an awe-inspiring passion for the natural world. Yet, the love for our unique craft is rooted deeper than how flowers look or make us feel. It is laden with techniques, initiatives, and ideas that illustrate our deep understanding and respect for nature’s function, necessity, and divine existence within the world in which we live.

Not all floristry is a true art form, yet we’ve always felt like blooms were our paint. When we delved deeper into this, we realised creating floral masterpieces was our true calling. It’s where our artistic expression and love for nature could dance together to tell meaningful stories and make an impact.

What does Blooming Haus signify in the world of floristry?
Blooming Haus signifies creative constraint, conscious luxury, and innovation. So often, we see businesses or individuals in floristry doing the most, equating more flowers with more domination within the industry. The trick isn’t always adding more and more; it’s often taking away.

Through meticulously thoughtful design, we create the most significant impact. We innovate
beyond the flowers themselves, interweaving different creative modes into the process to craft stories and experiences. Sustainability and mindful, responsible floristry and event production are some of the most critical aspects of our business. Our B Corp certification signifies that a more sustainable business model is possible and that companies of all shapes and sizes can embrace responsible practices.

Can you tell us what has been one of your proudest projects and why?
It has to be Vogue World back in September 2023! It was not just about the project’s sheer scale but the emotional connection we forged through our designs. The joy and amazement it brought to people in the arts post-pandemic, the organisers, celebrities, and guests made all the hard work utterly worthwhile. We donated all 20,000 red roses to Confetti Club (a not-for-profit organisation), which sustainably transformed each rose petal into biodegradable event confetti. This initiative raises thousands of pounds for Cancer Research charities while minimising wastage.

How is Blooming Haus unique within the florist industry?
Our commitment to sustainability without compromising our signature luxury style sets Blooming Haus apart. We’ve always believed quality and ethics go hand in hand. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to uphold the highest social and environmental performance standards while continuously exploring new initiatives that drive positive change worldwide.
Everything we do is meticulously researched. Our creators scour every conceivable resource to conjure up the kind of artistic alchemy we’re best known for today.

What has been the most challenging job you have done as a company?
Our most challenging job was a significant corporate event for a VIP international client. The event had a particular and intricate theme. The challenge lay in executing the event within four days’ notice, catering to each and every detail and ensuring that every element of our floral designs aligned perfectly with the client’s vision. It pushed our creative boundaries to new limits, but the result was spectacular and highly rewarding.

Can you share your most significant learning to date?
Being enthusiastic about forecasting what trends, techniques, and client needs are to come can help you stay ahead of the curve while giving you time to explore how to put your own original spin on it.

What are your personal favourite flowers? And why?
We have a soft spot for all fragrant flowers, such as peonies; their lush, full blooms and
transformation from tight buds to opulent flowers are mesmerising. They symbolise prosperity and are a reminder of nature’s transient beauty.

What goals do you have for Blooming Haus in the future?
This year, we were dubbed as “Fashion Favourite Florist” by Vogue Magazine. Being asked to deliver the blooms for the Met Gala – the biggest fashion event of the year – would be the cherry on the cake! Additionally, our goal is to continue innovating and pushing the boundaries of traditional floristry. We aim to expand our reach outside the UK, influence long-lasting sustainable practices in the whole industry, and create unforgettable floral experiences that resonate with people’s hearts
