“This is the biggest moment of my career, biggest moment of my life and I just feel so lucky.” British singer and songwriter Sam Tompkins delivered his most recent show last week in a sold-out concert at London’s Eventim Apollo, ahead of his highly anticipated 2023 European tour. In the past year, the rising artist garnered a legion of fans all over social media, support and appreciation felt to its utmost in his opening concert, as the crowds offered Sam emotional support throughout what was a heartfelt and cathartic performance, dedicated to his loved ones.

“Going into the Apollo show and this tour in general, I was super nervous,” he shares. “I had just lost my father and I was terrified of how it would feel to just rehearse, let alone perform in front of thousands. I spoke to my family, and they said it would be the perfect tribute to his memory, so that’s what I tried to make it become, to the best of my ability.” Such vulnerability and emotional maturity are probably what feel most relatable about Tompkins’ music, as he presents himself as an unapologetic artist, and someone who’s unafraid to pour his emotions, sharing the joys and angst of life with whoever is there to connect. “The night came, and it was beautiful. I hadn’t felt that supported and loved in all my life. The show just became the most soul-cleansing experience ever and I think will always be remembered as the show where I became a man. I felt my dad was with me, guiding me the whole time.”

Now, as he wraps up his 8-night-long tour around Europe, after performing in Rotterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Dublin, we take time to look back at this unforgettable night in London in the following photo diary.
