THE COPE

The Dublin-based audiovisual artists unveil their first short film, alongside their forthcoming debut album, Dancer.

David Anthony Curley and Joe Furlong, the creative minds behind the Irish electronic duo The Cope, showcase their audiovisual prowess with the release of their first short film. Collaborating with writer and director Jamie Delaney, the piece is a beautiful amalgamation of three videos depicting the pressures caused by the cost of living and housing crisis, specifically in Ireland, and the effect it has on exacerbating drug and alcohol use in the country. In the background, the duo’s perfectly synergized electronic tracks set the tone for the intimate and deeply felt journey that unfolds for the characters. The result is 17 minutes of immersive, thought-provoking cinematography addressing real, key issues directly.

And today, they also unveil their forthcoming debut album, Dancer, a 12-track project tracing back to the isolation lockdown period, when the duo embarked on a creative journey to craft a musical opus that encapsulates the collective longing for communal celebration. “We had two goals in mind. Firstly, we wanted to create music that we ourselves would want to hear when people could finally return to the dance floor,” they share. “Secondly, we wanted to craft the kind of music that compels people to dance, creating an immersive experience that captures the diverse moods of a night out.”
