BELLE PROCIDA

We spoke with the Australian triple-threat about her early love of performing and the importance of trusting your intuition.

Actor, singer, and dancer Belle Procida grew up on a farm outside of Queensland, Australia, where she quite literally did it all. Balancing her time between a budding professional horseback riding career and an early knack for entertaining, she sang in choirs, performed in musical theatre shows, and, by the age of 14, found an agent to nurture her profession. From studying at the National Institute of Dramatic Art and Los Angeles’ prestigious Stella Adler acting academy to booking roles in Rock Island Mysteries, Swinging Safari, and Life of Jess, she has developed a portfolio spanning Australia, America, and Canada. She even founded a swimwear line, IsolaSwim, taking her further into the world of fashion and solidifying her position at the intersection of arts.

We caught up with Procida to discuss her early love of performing, why she trusts her intuition on scripts, and her dream genres to work in.

Hey Belle! How are you doing?
I am going fantastic. Been busy, which I absolutely love.

How did you first get into entertainment and when did you know it was the industry for you?
I always was in acting classes and studying so I guess I first got into it just by studying and doing the work. I don’t know if there was a particular time, I knew it was for me, I always did before my career even began.

Which was your first love: acting or singing?
Both I’d say, when I was young, I would always sing and my mum always said I was singing and humming before I could ever talk, but I loved them both so much I just enjoyed performing.

What do you consider your breakthrough role?
My first role was just last year in a Nickelodeon show called Rock Island Mysteries, it was so fun, and I loved being a part of a production I grew up watching.

How do you decide which projects are right for you? What draws you to a character?
It’s just a feeling, like when you meet a person, and you love their character and energy. I think it’s the same when you read a script/character. I just trust my intuition and that has always worked for me.

Do you have a typical process of getting into character?
I just do a lot of breakdowns, and then extra things like making playlists, wearing clothes they’d like, I like to be alone a lot for prep so I can just be the character.

If you could work in any type of project or genre, what would it be?
I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it, but action like 007 and, of course, romance films. I want there to be more romance films like Notting Hill.

What are you most looking forward to?
Absolutely everything, when it comes to my work, I look forward to it all.
