Embarking on a solo journey since 2021, South-Korean sensation B.I has soared to new heights. With a trail of chart-topping hits and millions of global streams, the once lead singer of K-pop powerhouse group iKon is now captivating audiences with his latest musical venture, the five-track EP “Love or Loved Pt.2,” a sequel to the acclaimed 2022 release, “Love or Loved.”

Driven by a vision to elevate Korean music beyond the confines of K-Pop, B.I is aiming for a more expansive global stage with this new EP. And that’s exactly what we see in “Love or Loved Part.2”, a 5-track record drenched in pop-infused guitar riffs and irresistibly catchy lyrics poised to dominate social media. Collaborating with emerging talents like Destiny Rogers and Tyla Yaweh on the track “Got It Like That,” and joining forces with Bipolar Sunshine and Indonesian artist Afgan for “Lost at Sea,” B.I shows effort trying to bridge the musical realms of East and West.

What is it about music that drives forward your passion?
I express my thoughts with lyrics and melodies, and to have them embraced and cherished by my fans, is what fuels my passion for music and life.

What are your musical origins?
When I was five or six years old, my parents owned a clothing shop, and I distinctly recall being captivated by the hip-hop music playing in the speakers. I covered rap songs to become a rapper when I was in elementary school and officially started my career when I signed to a label. Drawing inspiration from daily life is a practice that has remained unchanged until today.

How would you describe your sound?
Dream.

How does it feel reflecting back on your ’21 album. Waterfall?
I have one word to describe that: ID. It was truly all for the fans who waited for me, and I express my thanks to them for where I am at right now.

In what ways has your artistry evolved since the debut?
Meeting incredible people, having a great team, and engaging with fans from diverse cities have genuinely provided me with numerous ideas and inspired me to set higher goals. The effortless synergy has propelled both my mind and body towards growth. This positive energy has, in turn, added more depth to my music and performance.

Congratulations on “LOVE OR LOVED PT.2!” Talk us through the process behind creating it?
From the initial stages of producing the global EP, I had a clear vision of having two distinct parts. I intended Part 1 to revolve around the theme of love, while Part 2 was crafted to delve into the end of love.

Why did you choose to do a second offering of the L.O.L series?
I wanted to articulate my perspective on the typical love experienced by individuals in my age group through music. I firmly believed that every listener could resonate with the songs, regardless of the form and shape their love and break-up experiences might take.

What are your career goals?
It has become my goal to continue my life just as it is today. When I look back, I see that I have always lived diligently, with no complaints about the work that I do, and I’m always exploring new avenues in music. These endeavours have collectively contributed positively to both myself and my work. Therefore, it has become my life goal to resist laziness and maintain a strong work ethic in this profession.

What’s to come from you next year?
Not many days are left in this year, but I plan on successfully completing the rest of my scheduled commitments. Looking ahead to next year, my top priority is delving into the numerous songs I’ve created during my Europe tour and completing them as soon as possible. Additionally, I aim to prioritise maintaining good health and diligence as my secondary and tertiary goals.
