A soaring new talent in the R&B space, powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Rosemarie is swiftly rising through the ranks with her increasingly impressive catalogue. Her sound is decorated with colour and finesse, assured and explorative, measured and meticulous.
In Spring, Rosemarie unveiled a vibrant and vivacious EP, “Rock Paper Scissors” to critical acclaim and public adoration, and the songstress has now blessed us with a further augmentation of the project in the form of “Rock Paper Scissors: Recut”. The deluxe version of the dazzling EP sees a further four tracks added to the eight-pronged original, including cuts that feature turns from heavyweights Kalan.FrFr and Roddy Ricch.
We caught up with Rosemarie to discuss musical origins, creative process and future goals.

Can you take us through your upbringing? What initially led you to a career in music, and which artists or experiences have influenced your musical journey?
This is pretty difficult to try and make concise haha, but what I will say is, music has been a huge cornerstone in the foundation of my upbringing, expanding through every genre, and in Spanish and English. It was at the centre of family gatherings, cooking, cleaning, and everything in between…so for as long as I can remember I’ve felt a very deep connection with its magic. Music is transcendental and was not only a soundtrack to my life’s good and bad times, but an escape, a comfort or consolation, I could consistently depend on. I started singing probably before I could talk, and I think as I grew, so did my relationship with music. The tether it has to my soul, becoming more and more exigent as the years passed. I tried to pursue other career paths, and somehow always went back to music. In 2016, I decided it was time to try and take myself and my career seriously, and have been going ever since. As a kid, when introduced to Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys…I was in awe, and they stuck with me. Truly…music in general, music videos, video award shows- I was and had always been captivated by it. I credit the aforementioned women, as well as Aaliyah, Rihanna and Beyoncé being of significant influence and inspiration.
How would you describe your overall musical style and the genre with which you feel most closely aligned?
I’m really trying to run from expectation in a way, but as far as I may run, what I felt most compelled to make initially and what has come most natural to me, my whole life, is R&B. I think it will always be my home base, and my comfort zone…but I’ve been working really hard to experiment and grow in discomfort and artistic and musical exploration.
How was the experience of collaborating with Roddy Ricch?
His creativity, and mind… just works in such a special way. Since I’ve met him, I’ve been blown away by his talent…so this was no different, but just uniquely special.
