Jen Msumba teases her upcoming captivating EP, “Pretending Gets Me Through”. This new project draws inspiration from her childhood idols such as Carole King, Jewel, and the Indigo Girls. Jen’s distinct mix of folk and indie pop shines bright within the scene, showcasing her refreshingly authentic sound and presence.
The first offering from “Pretending Gets Me Through” is the awe-inspiring tune “Alone”, an upbeat yet lyrically poignant song – the perfect track to intro your favourite indie film. Exploring themes of obsessive compulsive disorder, depression and loneliness, Jen uses her talents to shed light on struggles many of us can relate to, with a lighthearted, punchy delivery. Offering moments off escapism to her fans, this EP is more than just music, it’s a healing hand for those who are in need.
Reflecting on her journey so far, Jen shares, “Some of my favourite bands to listen to when I was a teenager were CDs I found in my brother’s room…The Dead Milkmen, Violent Femmes, and Rage Against the Machine. They satisfied my angst and gave meaning to my loneliness. I wrote this song as a homage to those days, in the style of the music that was the soundtrack to my life.”
Jen Msumba is a beaming light within the realms of indie-folk-pop, with an ever brighter future ahead of her. Be sure to follow her along in her motivational journey to musical stardom and bless your playlists with her playful, captivating sound.
