Indie artist Renee Maskin is a staple part of the music scene in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and now, she’s taking the world by storm. Known for her profound depth and one-of-a-kind vocals, she has mastered a blend of indie-folk, country, and experimental influences that is entirely distinctive to her own artistry. Her new single, “Scrimshaw”, is a perfect example of this. Plucked from her forthcoming LP, Shimmer, the track has arrived with a captivating visual component that we are so excited to share with you today.

Shot while travelling around America (primarily in and around Joshua Tree) with a super 8 camera, the enchanting video tells a story that resonates with the song’s poignant lyrics. The haunting beauty and eerie ambiance of the desert landscape complement the song’s emotional depth — providing a unique backdrop to lyrics that delve into themes of loss, death, and moving on. In her own words, “there’s a beauty and also an uneasiness that we felt there that lent itself to the video.”

The “Scrimshaw” video is not only visually magnificent, but also a testament to Maskin’s ability to connect her music with compelling and hard-hitting visuals.
