LARA MARKS & SAMFIRE — “POSSIBLE STRANGERS”

The two up-and-coming British artists combine their unique voices and expertise to bring to life the single’s new music video.

“‘Possible Stranger’ was written in the airport on my way to Los Angeles for the first time,” starts singer, songwriter and producer Samfire. “The aspirational promise of the city and the prospect of the unknown captivated me. The song erupts with that same sense of anticipation, its bass bouncing beneath the surface of the track. By echoing the lyrical sentiment in the production of the song, I hope I can take its listeners on the same journey.” Set on the same 11-hour flight she was about to embark on, Samfire’s most recent video, directed by Lara Marks, explores the liminal space between an anticipatory present of waiting and an imagined future.

“Possible Strangers” is the third cinematic project they collaborate on, fusing Marks’ independent film skills to Samfire’s bewitching pop, creating an expansive and complex sonic experience that brings to the screens the mystical awe inspired by a new place and unknown face. “When I first listened to the EP, ‘Possible Strangers’, I was struck by the specificity with which Samfire gave voice to the jumbled thoughts and feelings I harboured about the thrillingly strange city I’d come to call home,” shares Marks on the experience of working with the singer and songwriter on a project that deeply resonates with both.
