SCREEN WONDERS

Lost track of all the good movies and series coming in the following month? We’ve got you covered. Here’s this week’s roundup of highlights.

There’s no better season for a movie night than the cold, crisp November weather when the days start to grow shorter as fast as our cravings for a wild evening outing. The good news is that we have some amazing new titles to look forward to in the coming months. Here’s a selection of five new trailers from the past week that are going straight onto must-see lists. Keep scrolling…

Maestro

One of the most anticipated movies of the year, we can finally get a taste of Bradley Cooper’s brilliant acting and direction in the biopic Maestro, a film based on the story of the iconic American conductor Leonard Bernstein. A Netflix production, the movie boasts a stellar team behind the scenes, with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg signing on as producers. The film is an intimate dive into Bernstein’s personal life, artistic upbringing, and his relationship with wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, starring Carey Mulligan. Maestro will be shown in select theaters on November 22 and will be available widely on Netflix a month later, on December 20.

Saltburn

Stepping out of our beloved cheesy rom-coms, Jacob Elordi is ready for his next career step with the release of Saltburn, starring Barry Keoghan and directed by the cult-favourite Emerald Fennell. With the English countryside as its backdrop, Saltburn is a mystery-soaked psychological thriller, and we finally got a taste of what’s to come in an unconventional trailer for a scary movie. Believe it or not, the scariest part isn’t Jacob Elordi’s English accent or his eyebrow piercing…

Anyone But You

It’s safe to say that the buzz around Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s new rom-com Anyone But You started long before this trailer release. Now, we can get a closer look at what the hype was all about. Directed by Will Gluck, the mind behind Emma Stone’s breakthrough Easy A, the movie seems to follow the classic storyline of two people who initially dislike each other but end up falling in love — but with such a power couple in sight, we can probably expect some intriguing twists.

The Crown: Season 6 | Part 1

The sixth and final season of The Crown is nearly upon us! The climax collection of episodes will be unveiled in two instalments: the first four episodes being released on 16th November, and the remaining six on 14th December, and will document Lady Diana through her public limelight and the ultimate tragedy that followed. One for the history books – quite literally!

Doctor Who, 60th Anniversary

This week, Doctor Who fans received the exciting news of the series’ 60th-anniversary specials. Scottish actor David Tennant will star as the Fourteenth Doctor, and Catherine Tate comes back to reprise her role as Donna Noble. This all-time favourite duo will make their return to our screens in a series of three special episodes, airing each Saturday from November 25.

Squid Game: The Challenge

Are you ready for another round? This time, though, things are getting a bit more real. Squid Game: The Challenge is a reality TV show produced by Netflix as a spin-off from the viral Korean series, where 456 real players enter a competition in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million. Starting on November 22nd, audiences will follow the volunteers as they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show, putting their strategies, alliances, and characters to the test. Would you dare to try?
