“What I love about this track the most is it’s literally 2 versions of myself a year apart,” starts Jordan Duke on his new single, “Shout About.” Masterfully navigating between indie-pop and hip-hop grounds with his craft, he draws inspiration from musical references, including Easy Life, Hak Baker, and Rex Orange County, to create a laid-back and introspective sound that effortlessly conveys his musical essence.

“So, I produced the track and wrote the intro verse and chorus over a year ago while feeling really frustrated with where I was at. I hated my job as a roofer, and I had been taking myself seriously as an artist for around 2 years, but I found myself in this echo chamber where I felt I wasn’t being seen. At that point, rather than figuring out where I was going wrong and remaining patient, I decided to blame everything and everyone else,” he shares.

Fast forward a year, and a lot has been learned. “It’s crazy how much can happen in a year. I made some significant changes in my life that really boosted my motivation to stop complaining about where I want to be and actually work my way there,” Duke continues. The track incorporates contemporary inspirations, such as beatmakers J Dilla’s lazy breaks and Tom Mischa’s jazzy chord progressions, and has a Sunday-morning, indulgent vibe.

“Once you become content with life, everything else is just a game, right? That’s why when I revisited this track a year later, I decided to discard the second verse and write something fresh about how I’m feeling now. It still brims with honesty, as it’s not all unicorns and rainbows, but it’s laced with the confidence and gratitude I’ve gained over the last year.”
