NEW NOISE: MUVA OF EARTH

We sat down with the rising singer-songwriter to delve into her latest EP, her creative journey, and what’s on the horizon for the rising alternative singer and songwriter.

With Mother Earth as the centre of her craft, rising singer and songwriter muva of Earth is finding her ground in the alternative music scene. Today, she unveils her newest EP, “align with Nature’s Intelligence”, a meditative project centred around vulnerability, healing, and an evolved way of thinking, across eight tracks.

“’align with Nature’s Intelligence’ is a compilation piece that I like to call, meditative punk, due to its calming soundscape and also its futuristic message,” she comments on the release. Taking her cues from innovative sound travellers like Bjork, Nyokabi Kariuki, Alice Coltrane, Cleo Sol, and FKA Twigs, her own path has been one of expansion and self-reflection.

We sat down with muva of Earth to discuss her musical origins, artistic inspirations, and the journey of self-love and self-realisation that inspired the EP.

What is the meaning behind your artist alias?
muva of Earth is inspired by the mother, mother Earth… I guess, ‘she’ is about how nature can empower you.

Where did your passion for creation first come from?
I love how music can send people to feel new emotions. Music is such a mystical tool in our society, it can make you move and feel such heavy emotions. I love using my voice to make soulful sounds and to heal.

Who and what inspires you?
My community, green and herbal things and also Love. I am also inspired by rage, & being a voice for those who may feel muted. Musically, classical strings, with Aquarian synth sounds, and quotes from the moments with friends.

How did you shape the sound that you create within?
With time. Patience. With self-belief and appreciation for the message.

How have you worked to combine your variety of sub-sounds coherently in a style that feels singular to you?
I have just been practicing, channeling the sounds that feel right and feel of a unique frequency. I always intend to have my songs give mental stimulation.

How has working with Brownswood Recordings been?
It’s been a great experience, I have learned so much about the industry, and everyone there is super supportive.

We love your new single, “your intuition is your friend”! Talk us through the meaning of the track and its accompanying visual?
“Your intuition is your friend,” it is a piece that I call meditative punk, inspired by Afro-punk artists, Yves Tumor, and Willow Smith. The song has a message that we should attend to the connection we have with our intuition. Shooting it in Nigeria was a moment of appreciation for my ancestral roots, trusting the foundations that essentially built me. I feel quite connected to my intuition since making this song. I feel more aware as I have learned to ask better questions when feeling misguided.

How are you feeling about the release of your debut project, align with Nature’s Intelligence?
So excited, the project comes out Friday 22nd September.

What are the main themes and ideas of the project?
Harp, self-love, and self-appreciation.

Why did now feel like the right time to unveil a body of work?
I guess, the question could also be why not now?

Where did you want to take your artistry?
So many places. I would like to continue composing and arranging music that empowers myself and others. And to create a new wave of music for people to listen to throughout the time we are here on this Earth.
