SWAROVSKI × DISNEY100

Joining a centennial celebration, the crystal house unveils a replica of the 2015 Cinderella film’s bespoke slipper.

In celebration of their centennial, Disney has invited 100 global creative visionaries to create pieces inspired by the company’s films and characters. All auctioned in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the works cross disciplines and mediums, produced by fashion designers, musicians, and artists worldwide. Joining the impressive lineup of contributors is none other than the sparkling, magical crystal house itself: Swarovski.

With a longstanding history of collaboration, it is no surprise that Disney would reach out to the “Masters of Light”, but Global Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert’s vision is grander than we ever could have dreamed. The team has crafted a replica of the bespoke solid crystal slipper that was created for the 2015 Cinderella live action movie, using solid Aurora Borealis crystal that holds beautiful reflective properties. The epitome of Disney, instantly recognisable as a symbol of Cinderella, the slipper represents the magic and joy of its century-long world.

“I am honoured to participate in this global celebration of creativity and emerging talent,” explains Giovanna Engelbert. “What inspired me to recreate Cinderella’s iconic crystal slipper for Disney100 is the name of the charity and the idea of a wish. And of course, the slipper is the most famous shoe in the world. It is transformative and full of magic, so it was the perfect way to unite the world of Swarovski with the world of Disney.”

Continuing the centennial celebration, as well as honouring two decades of collaboration, Swarovski will launch a Disney100 x Swarovski collection of jewellery and home decor later this year. Stay tuned for some new crystal interpretations of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Minnie Mouse, coming soon. For now, take a look at the visual treat that is Cinderella’s Swarovski slipper.
