Oliver Jones, aka UK producer and DJ Skream, has been at the head of evolution when it comes to electronic music over the past two decades. Pushing forward in the augmentation and progression of sub-sounds whist cementing a legacy, Skream remains hungry to shape the culture and refine his own artistry. He recently announced the release of a new body of work; a fresh instalment from the Skreamizm series, Skreamizm 8, set for release on 15th September.
The latest teaser from the forthcoming album is upon us. Entitled “Thinking Of You”, the track flaunts the producer’s dreamy delicacy, as he conceptualises a track that is impressively disparate from much of his previous discography. A slick and sleek garage-infused amalgamation, hazy organs and piano chords swirl around the soundscape, with a spoken word passage from Skream himself sat atop the immersive palette, recorded as a future message to his children.
Jones explains the release, commenting, “Initially I recorded “Thinking Of You” as a voic note during the second lockdown, when I don’t know, maybe feeling a bit emotional, waiting to get back into society. My son was starting high school, the September of the second lockdown and I was thinking about the pressures that kids go under, especially what they went through lockdown and how life had been taken away. Made me think of the stresses of being a teenager, thinking about my own things that I went through when I was a teenager and all the stresses of social society when your body is completely changing. After a while I started to think this could become a song. At first I sent it to some people as an idea to give to them, some people who had their first kids. I had some demo sent back and thought they didn’t resonate as what I wanted, the emotion etc. Thinking Of You came together, I truly believe it resonates a lot more than what it was initially recorded for. It will resonate with all walks of life.”
